This +100 :eek: @capo , that was a close call, I had some similar on mine. It's really worth chasing all old/crap/hard wiring and replacing with new. Despite the cost, it's often worth buying new harnesses if wiring's not your thing + when reworking, add new fuses to all direct supply from switch lines for peace of mind. You may even like to switch via relay some of the heavier/long on ccts, i.e. head lights.

+ you may like to replace the original 2x 6way glass fuse box with more robust blade fuses via an 8way fuse box as here https://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product/309/category/63

I have a list of minor niggles and jobs to do on the 90 which I have only really got around to since retiring. Checking the dash wiring was one of them because I knew there had been problems in the past; glad I did ;) It's been an opportunity for me to check all the dash wiring and now all the bulbs work too :D

The heater wiring damage is historical and must have been missed when doing the wiring for the V8. A lot of the dash wiring was redone then as the lights, indicators etc had minds of their own :rolleyes: All earths were checked/renewed as appropriate during the V8 installation and any bodges behind the binnacle such as Scotch-blocs, twisted connections bound with tape etc were rectified then (apart from the charred heater wiring for some reason).
 
Used it to drive home from work after returning from a few days working away in Cornwall. I reckon Cornwall must have most of the country’s defenders, there are loads there!

Need to get a couple of FS108256’s now on Monday, and I can start putting it back together. :)
 
Finished the alarm/immobilser/CDL installation :)
Had a couple of wtf moments as it 'chirped' when locking/unlocking and it was also auto arming :eek: The user guide that came with it said how to activate these features but not how to deactivate them. Yet in the back of my mind I knew I had seen how to deactivate them......in the downloadable manual!
So nor more 'chirpy chirpy cheep cheep' and no more sitting in the car hearing it auto lock and then the siren going off as it detects me trying to open the auto locked door :rolleyes:
I won't wire in the immobiliser until I'm sure it is all working properly but it will connect easily to my DIY hidden kill switch set up. I'll probably add another HKS somewhere just in case this one gets bypassed; fuel pump sounds good.

Not a bad few weeks for my old 90...... repaired seized rear wiper motor and fitted new rear screen washer bag and pump, repaired HRW, added CDL, dash rewire of charred heater and other wiring, added twin-USB/voltmeter and VDO rev counter, installed alarm/immobiliser :cool:

Something is bound to go wrong now..........:rolleyes:;):D

Wired in the immobiliser so job finished :)
Tucking wires back behind the dash and found an unattached female lucar connector, white and red wire which is the feed from ignition switch to starter solenoid. Tried to stick it back on but couldn't find the tab, hard enough access to the back of the switch as it is. Then noticed that the female had something in it, yes the tag off the switch :eek: Snapped clean off.
Ordered a replacement on line.
Odd thing is it's a switch for a 2.5NA/TD not 2.5P wired to suit. Another PO mystery! :rolleyes:

Better to find it now than search for weeks for a 'fault' or have the loose wire start sparking up ...

So true. I've found and sorted several unknown issues since starting the cdl/alarm install and the dash etc won't be put back together until it's all been rechecked, new connections checked for tightness and tested. At least I now know my way around the back of an early Ninety dash!
 
Today I have removed the “farmers radiator muff” & drove for 30 miles.
Got it up to temperature & put the heater on. Went the tip & emptied the rear for next weekend.
Swept the back out & found someone’s useless tow rope but 2 nice shackles.

parked up for another week
 
Another eBay purchase. A sheet of auxiliary switch stickers. :) Not something I intended to buy (as is the case with eBay... :rolleyes:) but an impulse buy.
