To be honest it's been burning a bit of oil since I rebuilt the engine and I'm not sure why. I've been meaning to take the head off to do a bit of investigating, but have been putting it off :rolleyes: Hopefully, it won't develop in to another full rebuild. But at least I've got the specific tools now if it does :rolleyes: :D
 
Did you get your turbo issue resolved, does it boost nicely now?

I don't know how much you remember, neilly. They replaced the turbo and the second unit spooled up much faster and made an immediate difference to the pulling power of the Landy. It was still passing a bit of oil in to the induction pipework, intercooler and manifold. Some people say a new turbo shouldn't pass anything, other say they do. Anyway, I've been running it like that since, just topping the oil up when necessary, but always thinking James Martin is probably gong to be right in thinking that the honing wasn't done properly! I've been putting off taking the head off, having a look, and doing a home hone if it looked like it needed it. I'll get to see now though! Obviously, I've no idea why the head gasket has gone though! Pretty sure it has from those signs, I think I've just spotted it early on. Putting the oil pressure gauge in has been a good thing :)
 
Have just got back from meeting a complete stranger called, Mike. He's competing this weekend at Kophill in a super bright orange MKI Ford Escort that looks to be a flyer. But more importantly have bought an absolute mint pair of RX8 seats that he kindly brought up from Devon, stopping at Chieveley service station for the meet, en route to Kophill. Once the front end rebuild is complete it's time for an interior tidy up and fit these super looking seats.

PS I'm not in the habit of meeting male strangers at service stations! :eek:
 
Fired up the “slug” this morning, quick spin round the block and back then into the paddock to hitch up the Brian James.
Got it out then reversed back into the garden and put the little trailer on the BJ strapped down and already to go for 3 MOT tests or equivalent tomorrow.
Then the Equi trek and the 322 maybe in the afternoon, I say maybe as got to work on the 322s compressor tomorrow so could be Monday.

All go here in retirement land:).

Started pulling all this horrible racking ready to remove truckman top to turn it back into a pickup!
All the lovely original paint is under there and is spotless and shiny :)

It's amazing how much wood and weight in I'm there!!!! Some bits I could hardly lift

Fitted a new drop arm ball joint.
Gave a few panels a nice l'ill polish to see how the DA polisher works!! will noe=w have to do the rest of it.
Pulled the wading plugs to check no oil was escaping where it should not be.
Cleaned behind the diff guards.
Opened the handbrake drum, to check it over and will have to fit a new handbrake pad kit tomorrow.

Washed the bird sh*t off the side of it after the local pidgeons decided my roof rack was a good place to sit.

Also considered chopping my 300tdi in for a TD5, possibly...maybe... I don't know
 
Fitted a rear worklight this morning, the rest of the day I've been faffing about fitting bits of foam exercise matting as insulation and HD foam floor matting to the floor and sides of the tub. Cheap enough, used very tacky double sided tape, have to see if it stands up to time.

Postie delivered some Dinitrol that I had on order, so this afternoon there I was looking like a nuclear incident responder injecting the chassis. Actually managed to not get completely covered in the stuff, so a result :):)
Also had delivered a new fuel level sender, so that got fitted, seems to work, will go for a part fill tomorrow, then I can take a couple of trailer loads of assorted rubbish to the tip once I sort out the trailer wireing.
Stuck a bit more exercise matting on the inside and then had a bit of a doss on the settee to celebrate.
 
Had a right mare yesterday with reconnecting the trailer wireing, just couldn't get the r/h indicator to work on the trailer. Ended up testing continuity with my meter and finding all sorts of silly results. After a rosy lee and a belt of nicotine decided to take the trailer socket apart and have a look, a real crusty mess of the innerds, bought a new socket and straight away started to make progress. A new plug later (I had a brand new old one in stock) and everything works.
Jeeze, only took me 5 hours to sort out 7 feckin wires.
