Fitted my new wind deflectors. They look smart and on an old Landy are definitely noticeable. Ill drive to work later so I’ll see how they perform.

Today i had the fun job of trying to fit the bumper captive plate eventually after a bit of wiggling i found the bottom of the bumper had extra plates welded on
Once i ground them off the plates fitted and left the fun job of wiggling it to line up the bumper
Not having plated bolts stopped play though so i reproofed my piking day shelter as it leaked in like a sieve when i used it on friday

I looked at it and it is still rusting away to itself. The latest is, the chap who is going to weld in the bulkhead patch panels is coming over the second week of October. Hopefully it will all be done by the end of the year.
It will then be sold on as I have failed to procure an automatic box so I cannot physically drive it anymore :(
That’s a shame surely this forum can help you find the parts you need?

They have been trying! Both that were offered had logistical issues. I have resigned myself to it unless someone has one that I can get to. I have a trailer and tow vehicle now but time is running out.

Today I brought my new baby home.

1994 Defender 110 ex-MOD, with the Tithonus update in 2009.

Drove her 3 hours home, did as many miles today as she's done in the last year, but drove beautifully.

Needs a good service and MOT, but not much more than that.

Went for its mot today (well yesterday) - passed with no advisories - well chuffed 😀

Typically, checked lights etc the night before and all OK. Morning of the mot started journey to garage, turned left ok, turn right and indicators going 20 to the dozen! Somehow the rear offside lamp holder had failed overnight but thankfully had an old one in the garage so managed to sort it.

However, when I look back at last year's mot it failed on the door not latching and the windscreen washers not working. That was the door needed a slam due to stiff seals and the lack of use of the washer had allowed bacteria to form in the water which blocked the jet which was sorted by blowing through with the compressor.

Not too bad for 30 years old!

Got something to do when this storm goes away, kit arrived today to fix those leaks on the swivel seals
I did my swivels and calipers about a couple of years ago now. I think the swivels are a 14mm bi-hex fitting. You can't get a socket on them and I used an aviation spanner to start them off then a reversible ratchet spanner to undo them. It's important that it's reversible as if you undo it too far you can't get the spanner off!! You need to undo them all gradually to remove it. Also be aware that there are two types of swivels - ones with a Railko bush on the top side the other with a bearing so check you have the correct ones.

When you are doing your calipers clean the head of the fixings before trying to undo them. They are a 13mm bi-hex but they need to be a good fit as you don't want to round them off. Some people use a 1/2" socket but to be honest I found the best fit was a quality 13mm. Also be aware that the caliper bolts changed thread I believe in the early 1990s. Mine has a 10 spline axle (I think a 200tdi) and those were a course thread. The later axles were a fine thread so when you take them out check which ones you have if you are replacing with new. My brake pipes to the calipers snapped when I came to undo them as the nut had seized onto the pipes. I ended up making new ones.

Please forgive me if I am teaching you to suck eggs, but I was a novice when I tacked mine and these were some of the things I encountered when doing the job.

Yeah I’m hoping I’ve got the right kit from Britpart as the previous owner kinda just bolted anything on that fit. So we will find out today if I’ve got the right swivels. For the break calipers I bought new brake lines so with the 99%!l chance they’ll snap I’ll have to remake them 😅 oh and I’m hoping I’ve got the right bearings when I do everything 🥲

I do appreciate the reply!

This is how far I've got.. waiting on aviation spanners to arrive tomorrow.. I see what you mean!

Tap and die kit at the ready with how these ones are looking.. probably best the spanners arrive tomorrow as i've left them soaking in WD40.

Got a full day ahead of myself tomorrow, hopefully tomorrows update includes new bearings, swivel kit and brakes :vb-banana:

I hope they give up for you.

But I will mention even though you have a jack under, that and the axle stand could do with a better base to stand on when you start getting rough with your new spanner’s.

where’s your wheel?

J.

Wheel is to the side, an old one is more to the left under the chassis.. i got enough room to get in there and get crazy with the spanners ;)
