What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

I have been enjoying the fun of removing the exhaust manifold, when the biggest issue was taking off the exhaust itself.

Seems the PO had welded a td5 exhaust to a 300tdi manifold attachment , as it is a 300tdi engine with a td5 body.

not enough room to get a socket on the nuts, rusted to helenback, so had to drop the coolant and alti to remove the manifold and front exhaust intact, before dremmeling the nuts off of the manifold and splitting the two.

Tomorrow is spilt the turbo to fit the hybrid unit.

Carried on cutting rust out and playing with the welder (the machine you twunts, not a person), as I thought I'm finding more to do but at least my welding is getting better with all the practice.
Should be final repairs tomorrow to the rear, so that will be everything from the bulkhead back. Then it's paint prep and get on with it.
 
I finished wiring up my dash ready to fit it tomorrow. The little led lights draw 10mA each, the voltage gauge draws 10mA (the big screen draws 280mA but didn't take a picture).

First stab at a dual battery layout. I haven't purchased a leisure battery yet and I will probably get a Platinum Marine as that is what the primary battery is.
The second battery at present is a little 60Ah 480 CCA battery from an car we scrapped a couple of years ago :rolleyes:

For those of a strong disposition a few photo's of my patching/welding, took me a while to realise that if I cut the gussets off first it would make the whole job so much easier. Welded new gussets after plating, everything done with 3mm plate.
Not pretty but I really don't think anything is going to fall off.

Going to take a while tidying up some of the welds - especially the "upside down" welds - but that will all be done as I prep for paint.
The paint thats on there - where any exists - is a real mixture, some quite thick complete with a nice layer of surface rust underneath.
Not looking forward to it to be honest, hot air gun/scraper, wire brushes in the angle grinder and finish off with flap wheels.
 
Didn't do much to "The Shed" today due to senior management - AKA the doris - wanting me to cut some granite worktops for the kitchen.
Did get round to dismantling the rear A frame ready for cleaning up/painting. The hardest part, as expected was getting the old bushes out, cut through with a hacksaw eventually and deformed them until they drove out.
I did find that using plenty drilling/tapping/cutting oil stopped the hacksaw binding in the rubber sections, 1/2 hour each bush so well chuffed with that.
I guess I'll be on my back underneath getting surface rust/old paint off the rear chassis tomorrow. Lovely. :(:(:(

I’m using Matt NATO Green and Matt Black Arc Rite paint, roller and brush applied. I was going to go satin again but decided to try Matt as I’ve always loved the look of it! I have a couple of aerosols of each colour to soften the line between the colours and to get the bits not easily attacked with a brush or roller.
I am going to copy the pattern it had when I bought it

I’m going to reduce the black a bit though.

Sanded the other side, roof, back and bonnet today then given her a good wash with a bit of washing up liquid.

Also etch primed as many bare metal bits as I can find.
It’s a messy old job and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get rid of every flakey bit and brush mark but it is a great deal better than it was and hopefully my paint will hide the worst of the imperfections......

It's a great look. Love the HubNut sticker too (I take it you are watching his exploits on the way to Croatia?)
 
After a day under "The Shed" redistributing rust and paint off the chassis and onto me I still haven't finished prepping.
Took the rear prop and handbrake off to help with access to strip inside side of chassis leg, also took off the A frame mounting brakets so I could get everything clean(er). Drill cold chisel and a splitting wheel were more use than the socket and breaker bar.
I really hope to be getting some primer on it all tomorrow.

It’s amazing how nasty things get before they get better! I sometimes wonder why I started something in the first place!!
