What do i Need to look out for?

My Mrs is going to be selling her little VW beetle and as we are now moving up to bedfordshire a Freelander looks like a good choice of car for the area, as the roads tend to get pretty pooey during the winter.

I'll be looking to spend up to £5000 on a freelander, must be diesel and must be Auto (as she can't drive a manual).

So what do i need to look out for? If i find one i like would it be worth calling the AA to do a pre vehicle check before buying?

I'd be asking for the AA man to follow you about after purchase. Just in case.
Check for whiny axles and props and make sure doors are secure. Check all electrics work as they should.
