My car's been having a bit of a rest the last week or so, working from home, nights driving rail replacement buses. I get to keep the minibus at home as the job is local to me in Ashford. But, today we're off to the local indie garage to get the heater control valve changed. no summer's nearly here having the heating system working properly is essential... Next month the front suspension arms.

I'd do some of these bits myself but I have very weak skin, the slightest snag on the backs of my hands causes the skin to lift and bleed profusely. Sarcoidosis, a rare disease, liveable with but a nuisance.

My skin is a bit like that but in my case it's just old age. I have to always wear gloves working on the cars.

Finally got the balljoints delivered ,Only took 7 and a half days ,any hoo 3 hours later all back together ,Got away with not removing the abs sensor, would not move anyway
The metal bit that kind o covers it disintegrated just enough to let the shaft come out ,I will try n cover whats left wi some tape or something ,the teeth on the ring were choked so cleaned with a small screwdriver,How it still worked i will never know it was just a constant ring of rusty looking stuff ....:) I will doo the other side some other day ..ha

It normally sits level, but after 10 days not being used, my blue P38 seems to have leaned over a bit !! Usually levels ok when started up !!

Asking for friend.. What's your views on mixing different compound tyres on same axle? Sounds bad to me.. but van contact eco and van contact camper on the front of a motorhome. The camper tyre is reinforced and has m+s and 3PMSF logo, the other is just a regular van tyre! Bought by mistake and fitted to the front/driven wheels

Not something I would do and may be illegal, could also invalidate your insurance in the event of an accident. Likely to stress the diff too.

Hadn't thought of it like that but yes thanks

Also found this from Michelin;
"Can you put tyres of different brands, treads, depths or seasons on the same axle"?

This is generally prohibited by law.

On the same axle, tyres should even be of the same model.

The M+S one will wear faster than the normal one. There may be differences in grip but I don't think it will make enough difference to cause harm. Being a camper I doubt you'll be driving dynamically enough to notice much difference when steering either. Mind you, I would still be tempted to swap them for the rear and put the harder wearing one on the side that wears fastest. Around here it is usually from roundabouts.

I don't think the camper will need commercial tyres but better check. Some manufacturers specify certain brands of tyres but most insurance companies don't check unless it is a high-performance car / bike. A friend has an F-Pace SVR and his tyres have to be Pirelli J otherwise his insurance is invalid. £700 a tyre. Exactly the same tyre goes on the Ferrari but is branded Pirelli F and then they doubled the price.

Generally prohibited by law. Yes, I can see why but the fact it isn't always makes me suspect it is a theoretical risk in certain instances rather than real. Cars probably a very bad idea. Mower or tractor, probably OK. Little VW camper or Transit camper? Bad idea. Slow lumbering camper van? Hmmm.
