Well whats blooming happening. Out and about visiting today and massive loss of power going up slopes and hills. Me thinks back to this happening before and unplugged MAF sensor restarted and away we went. Looks like another new sensor needed. Ha well that can wait til new year.
Merry Christmas and seasons greetings to you all. May all your faults be little ones. :D :D

Don't assume the MAF is duff. Try cleaning it.

I did Otto's (4.0 V8) by blocking the sensor outlets with cotton wool, standing it on end with that downwards and pouring isopropyl alcohol down the sensor intake.

Left it to soak/ evaporate for an hour, removed the cotton wool and gave a quick splash through with a little more isopropyl, then refitted.

He's been fine since.

It's a different type of MAF in the diesel. The petrol uses hot wire, the diesel hot film which is much harder to clean without destroying it.

True. I have proper MAF cleaner. The one thats failed was an old second hand one off a scrapper that was covered in sh*te. Cleaned it put on and have cleaned it twice when changing air filter so confident it has finally died. Will try a clean but don't hope for much this time. The diesel ones don't like being cleaned that much is what I have found.

Started her up 1st time since mot expired, left running to warm up for 20mins, had a move about the yard and up and down the road a few times, clocked 4miles, gearbox has left a puddle think its pan seal so il have to do that and fresh fluid, hopefully get her motd and back on semi daily duty again after new years

Well, we had a trip from home near Ashford to my son's place at Horley near Gatwick Not a spot of trouble there and back at motorway speeds most of the way. Luckily I'd checked the tye pressures on this car before we set out, the nearside front was down to 10psi, maybe hitting a pot hole just along from where we live caused a bit of a leak. We also checked my partner's Disco tyres, one of those was rather low as well. We'd checked hers about 2 weeks ago. It goes to show, check tyre pressures regularly! I'd hate to have a flat tyre at motorway speeds. Oh, and the car showed 28.1 mpg for the journey. Not bad a the 4.4 TDV8.

Don't believe the dash, they are often wrong, brim to brim is the only accurate way of telling MPG.

Looked for an insurance quote for next year. JFC! The lumbering 2.5 litre diesel costs double what a v8 4.0 litre Jaguar costs to insure! Are they insane?! Their algorithms must be seriously messed up, although having seen a few people's ideas of data analysis I shouldn't be surprised.
I've just gone with Aviva. £235 fully comp for my diesel
