I had an e36 6pot coupé, that was a sweet engine, the best I've ever had and probably ever likely to have! Didn't stop me having a 2000W sub in the boot though

but that was different times.
Still got the sub

At least the gasket doesn't blow anymore

I can run it for a few minutes

Would have drilled the stat today but couldn't get motivated

Get a 2nd P38 then it’s not a gamble as can lose nothing. Cheaper in long run and let’s face it your green oval syndrome is already bad as it gets.

6 pot P38 would solve most of your current issues. Well, replace them with new ones atleast

Although I mentioned scrapping it in, a P38 was a dream car from my youth. I've had mine for 10 years, the biggest issue with her is she is my daily driver. Really P38s need to be a weekend toy... or at least have a spare reliable second car in the stable. Sure MoT season is stressful, but that's the charm.

That's why I have 2 P38's

Ran Otto at the weekend after disconnecting the EAS blue hose - compressor definitely not doing it's thing. Compressor off and stripped, can't see anything wrong, although after only about 100 miles the piston to barrel seems pretty loose and I'm sure it shouldn't be. Replaced the HP side O ring and checked the reeds - register marks and scoring, wondering if they are allowing pressure to damage the new seal instead of build and go into the system.
Plugged it back into the box, forced the pump with the nanocom, output still rubbish,
Thinking a cheapo pump to replace it and keep woring away. Maybe get some feeler gauges and cut myself some new reeds as a check. At least a piston seal / cylinder kit is only about £25 but done that twice already....
