I must admit I am bored enough to get the hand book out of the glove box and see what half of these buttons do. :)

Can’t play too much. My fuel light has come on and I don’t want to flatten the battery.

As you say it’s the best chair to sit in for an hour.

Fuel injection pump:
Took 6 hours to remove all the rubbish and go to Halfrauds for the 17mm sump tool to remove the tension pulley. Changed all the o rings, installed a viton on in the HP head and drinking a cider for a job well done. What a ****ty job.
Tomorrow as Mr Haynes once said "fitting is the reverse of removal". We'll see :D:D:D:p:p:p

Think I might have used a bolt with the right sized head and 2 nuts on it.

I had issues with that when I snapped my tensioner. Tried going cheap but bought laser bmw sump tool especially, glad I did it needed about 200nm to crack it off -

So the bu**er won't let go
Snapped the 89p rad key, got a BMW/MG 14/17mm hex plug which snapped the spanner

Then only the whole oily bloody thing would come out of the block

Hope I'm not missing a point (other than the spanner ; yet to be found )

@kds - still not found end of that spanner, it’s in engine bay somewhere?
:D

Today I dropped the oil and flushed it out with fresh and a ‘cleaning agent’. Jacked two front wheels up to try tip as much as possible out of the rad. I’ve left it overnight with a pan underneath see how much drips out slowly.

This made it possible to locate my worn UJ’s on the shafts. I’ve had problems identifying what it was in the past but with both wheels up and my head near the sump it was literally right in front of me.

Haven’t got a (15mm?) spanner to get access to the bolts as they are really tight. So I’ve opted to take it off at the joint for now so I can crack them off easily. I got all four wheels up before I worked out the handbrake was holding it :D:p
Surprised how the clips came out with just a bit of wiggling, suppose this is what it’s like when you actually have the right tool for the job :D

The adventure continues tomorrow when I go hunting for new UJ and try to put oil back in without something going catastrophically wrong as usual

Wish me luck :)

Had a spare hour so decided to change the front nearside pads, should have smelt a rat when I noticed all the others had already been done.
Looks like someone had undone the bottom caliper bolt about 3mm before it got stuck so they just left it. 1 snapped bolt and 6 hours later I now have new pads fitted.

Next job is the outer cv boot, looks like they put a new one on then split it when they did the brakes and ball joint so there was grease everywhere.

9/16". My Halfords socket fits or you can get a propshaft socket off the Bay cheap.

Unless someone replaced with Britpart in which case they might be metric 14mm.

The leading edge of my bonnet was rusty as fook, but luckily a garage near hear were breaking one in Oxford Blue, so I got that off them and had it blown over at a paint shop, just shy of 200 wangers and she looks lovely. Just need to buy the letters because it looks weird being blank.

that's Universal Joint not a Constant Velocity joint.

Oh dear this could be the start of something big. ;):D:D

installed a viton on in the HP head
What’s a viton?

Thank you, my snapon socket I found under my starter fits but the cheap adapter sheard off, metric doesn’t quite grip it however I’m hoping to be able to change it on there without taking shaft off as there’s no beams in the way

@Bix - I did same, then realised once I had it my vehicles not oxford blue
.....well it kinda is now :D

Sorry Viton seal - should last a lot longer. Apparently.

Today's saga is that the DTI kit - for P38's! Well it isn't quite. Comes with 2 needles inside. Sizes 2 big & 2 small. If the adapter tubes were slightly longer then said long needle wouldn't be too big - it would fit. What this means is that if I try to push the DTI into the tube to seat properly it won't go in because 2 long needle is too long, by about 5 mm but could be a bit longer. Angle grinder time....
