Sounds like hes just slapped a second hand lump in it

Just thinking it through ... M51 has hydraulic tappets. Could anything cause the lifter to stay ever so slightly protruded? That might make a dinging noise but you might just get away with a nee valve and maybe a flush / new spring / whatever to get the tappet working properly again? Or am I way off piste?

Need @wammers know how!

engine aside, theres no real way a lifter could 'pump up' and cause the valve to stay open, unless it didn't close before the cam came round again
just my opinion

That's what i think too buddy as he has only had it back 2 weeks and that is not enough time for a full engine rebuild IMHOP.

Makes me laugh how he is still also using historical pictures of it from 2015/6. Agreed she is 100% better now in the way i returned her to him but she does need some work on the bodywork. The rear bumper needs a FULL respray as it has been bodged in the past and the lower halfs of the passenger side doors had small scabs on them so they would need respraying to look mint again and there was some scabbing on a couple of the black door window frames too. Alloy reaction over time to water. Only 1 key which was dodgy albeit i did put a new battery in it so it worked and it had the dreaded battery drain RF module syndrome too which is why i had my C-tek connected to it 24/7. The new battery i fitted myself so its brand new unlike the duff one he fitted for me. Inside she is lovely though and i did a lot of cleaning and polishing in there and all the door shuts and bonnet and boot shuts too. I also fitted the new exhaust system and wax oiled it underneath and fitted all the blue interior LED bulbs. I also fitted the new front steering arm rod and ARB bushes so he got it back with a lot of new bits and enhancements on it.
It will again be a nice car for someone BUT not for his 10k asking price and the fact it still has issues.

Unless its jumped a cog on the chain and thrown it out of time which is what we think happened to mine AFTER it had been sentenced to death by a Turner Performance re-map

Old girl due for oil and filter change. As you folks know not too mobile these days and no one available to take out and refit drain plug. Had in shed a syphon thing that claimed to pump up engine oil from through dip stick pipe. Have in past long ago used these on a commercial scale with electric pumps. This was a hand one, any way warmed engine to thin oil, tried with pipe that came with it, way to thin to suck up oil so change for some 10mm dia plastic plumbers piping and you know what out came the oil like a good un. Took 3 or 4mins sat on a chair pumping away ( must have looked bit weird for any body looking from behind:D:D). Filter swapped over new oil in and away I went.

There's always a way, never give up!!!

they can work quite well if you get the speed of the drill just right, not used one in ages though
A bloke I know uses one on his allotment to pump water around an irrigation system he's made so thought warm oil it should work. PLUS far cheaper than taking to any garage and also know that the job has been done.

know that the job has been done.
thats the killer.. main stealers especially, even if they do the work, you can't be sure its been done well, that they remembered to replace the filter etc
I'll never forget i took a car to a dealers once, to maintain warranty. I complained they didnt change the air filter (car had done around 50,000 miles) but he told me it wasn't due until 70k!!! FFS I checked it myself and it was solid black gunge, no clue how the engine was running

I once wrote my initials on oil and fuel filters years ago. When I collected car was told everything changed sir. My reply was its fantastic how you've managed to write my name on the filters like the old ones. There were many apologies as I stood and watched them being changed. Never went back and have always tried to do my own ever since.
