What did you do with your Range Rover today

Since the damper in basic terms is just a piston with valve openings moving though an oil, tell me why they should return on their own if laid horizontal. If held vertical they may slowly extend under the weight of the lower part. Dampers work in compression and rebound with different damping rates for each direction. On my race car I could adjust the rate for either direction.
On the P38 for example the damper is near mid range at normal height.
The bulk of road cars use an inert gas in them, as you say to prevent aeration, but one of the other features of this is it also acts as an air spring similar to an Oleo, although not quite.
If your race car didn't extend by itself it was either knackered or a gas-less damper which as the name suggests is gas free and as such won't extend on it's own.

On twin tube dampers the gas pressure is equal at both ends.

Shockers cam today, and were fitted.

Old ones were ruined.

Fitting the new ones was interesting, I had to compress the new ones by hand while the top bolt was being fiddled around with, bit of a ballache "literally" but work is done..

The ride is far superior, no longer bounces over a succession of potholes, and it is more surefooted.
The rock and wobble through the steering wheel has been eliminated too, which was a bonus..

Very happy with them..

Anything was going to feel better after replacing those!

Surprised the old ones got through your MOT if they were that bad

Turn those washers over on the lower bushes matey. ;)

Just been out and given both prop shafts a good greasing. Hasn't been done for about 6months so thought it would be time.
I know I shouldn't be doing a lot but laying on my back and pumping away isn't that hard:p

Turn those washers over on the lower bushes matey. ;)
Contrary to what i thought those washers are on the right way, if i flipped them i couldn't get the nut on the thread, even after squishing the rubba!! o_O
Even doing the switcharoo with the washers and swapping top to bottom made no difference!! ;)

Not top to bottom, it's the cupping action of the washer.
Most axles have the original cups removed because they are very deep and can come into contact with the shock washers. By turning the washers in reverse.... Hang on I'll get you a picture from mine;)

Passenger side flexy and rigid brake pipe replaced to approx half way down the sill.
Looks like new from there back but a pig to get at so that will do for now. Drivers side tomorrow then time for some bleeding.

Pump out

Weird that I pulled the pump and she went into a hissy fit.... fuel gauge fault on dash and she locked me in.
Rear int. handles wouldn’t work either? had to shut everything up lock then unlock with fob and she settled down
Think she thought was being stolen

Can see where the tracks have worn. It’s nice to see the phiysical evidence of the abstract idea I had in my head of when exactly the gauge would play up.

Don’t think this is supposed to be living in here. Like a fungal primordial ooze sorta stuff
No humming or anything when glows are on so guessing motor is dead but might as well try. Connector half way down was a little loose and the teabag filter on the bottom can’t be picking up much cleaning should help FIP pull through bit easier

Bacterial growth in the diesel, common problem if the tank is only kept half full. You can buy stuff to treat the diesel and kill any remaining bacteria in the tank Yacht chandlers have it in stock.
