Took the dog to the vets for an emergency appointment. He was in a bad way and the wife was worried... £240 for heart burn.

Then while braking a hit a pothole and it immediately threw up a ABS/TC fault. The whole way back the front left brake kept applying as though it thought that wheel was spinning. Which isn't ideal.

Went to see the Main Dealer yesterday. The parts guy is very knowledgeable and worked on p38s when they were new. He says they were always told to fit a full flange kit when replacing the rear output seal on the transfer box, never just the seal. Apparently they were notorious for leaking when new, let alone after 20 years.

The kit has to be ordered in advance but at £120 I thought I would skip it and have one last go with just a seal!

Keep us informed. I do believe mine is going the same way, and I'm kinda lazy, so I'd rather just do the job once.

Get it measured, (shaft and housing) then get a James walker double lip seal for it, shouldn't leak then!

Pulled it out. Looks fine. Seems to fit well. There's loads of transmission fluid dropped out (guess who forgot the tray and got it all over my cardboard?!)

Just having a little think about how to cure this. There's a little rubber washer as well but cannot imagine that causing issues.

Damaged housing or shaft allowing Fluid past?

What you need is a good welder and a lathe.

Tidied up the interior
