No. Mine isn't showing much signs of wear. So I got away with a good clean. Apart for two very small areas where the surface has worn away. The only thing I couldn't get very clean was the stitching. Once the thread is stained it won't come clean. Still it's way better than before. If your going to the trouble of dying the leather why not dye the steering wheel black. That way it won't show up all the marks. I thought of doing that to mine. It really does get mucky what with all the dirt and dead skin from your hands.
