My bosses have a 07 vogue tdv8 and a 58 vogue autobiography tdv8, both nice cars and not had any problems other than flat batterys.

You will not notice a performance difference unless the increase in BHP is circa 10%. I very much doubt blanking the EGR would've done that.

However, what blanking the EGR does do is effect cold weather performance in a negative way. The recirculated gasses help keep heat in the engine. WOT the EGR will be closed anyway. The only reason they suffer is a lack of maintenance. When used as city cars dervs do to generate a lot of soot, that cakes the EGR faster than a fast thing. It also blocks DPFs. Simple fix though, drive it like you stole it.

When I got my RR the EGR was a black pole of soot. I sprayed some brake cleaner over it then went for a hard drive using lots of boost. When I came home it was sparkling clean. It did generate a lot of dirty smoke in the process but was worth it so my engine gets up to temp in no time (until the stat failed open) plus it runs slightly cleaner as the other reason for the EGR is to give some unburnt gasses a second chance at turning into the explosion they have been waiting for. I haven't had to clean it since (about a year and a half later) because I stretch the legs on my RR regularly.

Now if you're one of those retards who like to roll coal, you don't want an EGR as that will choke your engine. But standard tune, even the modest increase given by most remaps/power boxes, you can run an EGR quite happily. If you leave great plumes of soot every time you go near the throttle, then an EGR isn't for you.
 
So have any of you guys actually got a TD6 with an EGR fitted and then tried it without one fitted ??

No problems with heating the engine. Fuel burning heater does that :)
 
I've been running dervs for most of my driving life. Not once has removing the EGR ever increased performance or economy. I get told to do it all of the time by people who like oversized wheels and a slither of rubber on them.

It is only sound advice when you're smoking out the back. Before then it makes no real performance difference unless you drive around town all of the time. Comically that is the same reason they started including the EGR (and DPF). It lowers crap out of the back of a derv, but by using them in an area they're supposed to protect they stop working.

Then there is the subject of DPFs and why they are a waste of time which do more harm to health than without one. But that is a rant for another day.
 
well today i coverd the old looking wood with some carbon wrap cost me £7 to cover all the wood and looks better for it .:)

I've been toying with doing that but in black (not sure if matt or a gloss yet). Was it much hassle to get the trim on and off again?

It looks much nicer than the fake wood.

hi it is black, flash on camera made it look gray ,
trim on doors was ok ,door panel off and small plastic 8 mil nuts on the back ,
glovebox and the small end bit on dash was a bit tricky i used a blunt wood chisel under each bit and prised them up gently ,,its like a long ridged pin on the back of them that pushed in to small plastic plug holes [i knew i should have taken more pics]

this is the ebay item number for the wrap used 190662785894

Still keep meaning to Hoover and wash it , but its still to bloody cold and I'm not paying those roadside imigrants 20 quid to do half a job!


However I did give it a good lube up ....

May have to give it a punt then. Would be nice to get away from the silly fake wood trim.

When I said black I meant more like this.

Can't decide if gloss or matt though. D:

is that black fablon go carbon wrap
with the carbon wrap you can heat it a bit with a heat gun and stretch around the corners
