Apent the day rebuildin the engine. 2 steps forward, one step back and redo. That effing head kit from Victor Reinz is crap. The exhaust gasket with heat shield is missing but they put in the turbo gasket and that isn't even on the head. No injector washers either so just put the old ones back.

Email them and have a pop, they might be nice and send a 'sorry' package ...

They'll be getting an email. The water pump is the wrong one with the plastic impeller. Fortunately the metal one I put on still looks and turns like new even after 10 years.

Meanwhile the other thing missing from the kit is the o-ring where that metal coolant pipe has a single bolt holding it in the block. I've had the sof apart 4 times trying to make various o-rings fit but it leaks every time. A whole day wasted today and no further forward. Very frustrating. Going to have to send the **** punp back and order a proper o-ring while I am about it. Not a happy bunny at the moment. No car for another week.

Eventually got Otto up on the jack, after adapting it to actually fit. I'd rather have him on the narrower setting and more support area than just 1" down each edge on the wider setting. Might have to measure carefully and make some custom spacer bars for the width so it fits him perfectly.
Got the wheels off easy, liners fought but eventually came off cleanly with the proper trim tools and verbal threats.
Top clips freed off sweetly though took a few minutes to figure out removing them - easy once you know how.
Bottom clips were solid, looked at multiple posts on here and just used the crowbar and lump hammer to get the ally bases off the mounts and snap the pins. Does anyone know how old ally based air springs would be? I get the impression the newer ones are plastic base as well as top.
Scrubbed / scraped / sanded and cleaned everything we could and got it all nicely coated with Hammerite - at least it looks more cared for for the MOT now.

Tomorrow - fitting the new springs in and getting him back on 4 wheels instead of 2 and the jack. Maybe even a road test if ll goes OK and we aren't too completely shattered!

439 miles on a full tank and still 204 left.......happy with that:D

After just over 1250miles on the go this weekend,
Taking the supercharged down did quite well only kicked out of 5th and back too 4th on long motorway hills a couple of times but kept pace but with that weight behind it im not suprised,
Back up road with unloaded trailer uneventful,
Been good as usual did 25.6mpg the whole trip,

I couldn't have met up as I've been covered in oil all weekend fighting the bastard. I think lack of sleep isn't helping. If you'd come round you'd have heard an swful lot of bad language!

Snap - getting the bottom pins into the new airbags was a right pain - took longer than breaking the old ones off!
Bags in and connected, liners replaced, wheels on. Time start dropping him back towards the ground and refilling the system after a bite to eat. See how it fills and settles, then start worrying about the bonnet release which appears to have gone into sulk mode overnight. Always something....
