What did you do with your Range Rover today

I never found mine that bad.... the most annoying point of mine is it was an alpine unit and i cant figure how to wire a non alpine one in.
Mine has been a bloody nuisance. CD has played up a few times over the years. Even did without a CD player for ages.I almost put a whole new system in a few months ago, but, thanks to chap on ebay , managed to get head unit issue resolved.

I've never used the cd player in the boot. I bought the Gromm unit before I'd bought the car. It was a given I was buying a P38 and a given I would be using the bluetooth for my music actually I'm thinking of removing everything in that area so I can have more room for my wheelchair in the back with the toolbox. The only bit I really need is the wiring.
What I don't know is ehen that will be coming out. I need to make sure the car is running mechanically right before any cosmetic or non mechanical wants are started.
So today my wife and ai drove over to just outside of Edinburgh to pick up the lower section of the airbox and a small poece for the dash surround so it can be acrewed in properly and not squeak and drive me crazy.
Oh, I'm still no further forward with the dashlights. All the bulbs are fine and I've tried the dimmer switch as per Rave but still nothing.
Exciting times

Craig.

Took pre-work pictures of the tailgate rust so wife has a record of how she has done with fixing it.
Syphoned about 1/2 litre of coolant out of the header tank so I can do a less chance of mist / splash contamination sniff test tomorrow, while also then jacking up to the max on the suspension ready to do pre-underbody protective spray pictures.
Checked - my 12mm 12 point is a brilliant fit for the exhaust header bolts, so while they are hot tomorrow after the sniff test I will at least loosen them al half a turn or so.
Then it will be plugs out and throttle jammed full, relevant fuses pulled and do a full compression test, see what state that shows for the motor. See how much needs doing, and how soon.

Definitely Camping for me - road test new tent - flying colours!

My, those spark plugs are a bit of a pain to get to aren't they? Several easy, several pretty awkward.

Did the sniff test, definite combustion leak from the colour change, not to mention the amount of frothing.

Started with the easiest to reach pots - front of the right hand bank. Thought my compression tester was duff to start with - turns out instead of a 4 litre V8 we've been enjoying a 3 litre V6. Did double (and triple on the low pots) test for each cylinder.

170 / 170 (1) (2) 0 / 0 / 0
150 / 150 (3) (4) 0 / 0 / 0
170 / 175 (5) (6) 150 / 160
150 / 165 (7) (8) 170 / 170

Variation isn't ideal but I'd live with it for a bit, but 2 cylinders with effectively zero (might have been 10-20 but was off the bottom calibration) is definitely no good. Number 7 plug looks clean / white on the insulator, so suspect that is my coolant pressurization point. Fingers crossed 2 / 4 is a cylinder to cylinder blown gasket and nothing else damaged but I fear the worst. Maybe the camera well tell later. It is too hot and bright out there to be mucking about with that at the moment.

Sorry to state the obvious but geez that's not good. I really need to do the same with mine. In a way I don't qant to know though :(

If it was 2 odd cylinders that were flat I'd be very worried. Hopeful that 2 adjacent is just gasket between them. Otherwise I reckon we'd be looking at the whole hog with top hat liners / new pistons (and all bottom end bearings), cam / follower change and either full top end refresh or replacement head(s).

Never stops with machines does it? My Triumph Legend is the same. If it isn't electrics, its carbs or mechanical.

Dead cylinders adjacent to each other points to headgasket compression isn't ideal though..

As for coolant pressurization for cylinder 7 will be headgasket "hopefully" as it is right enxt to the water jacket..

What you don't want is a leak on cylinders 5-3-6-4 ;)

You're right, it never stops with machines.

Made it there and back in one piece!! More or less. As well as the abs light coming on when i stop, I've now got the drivers airbag throwing a fault. Could be worse
Before we replaced the accumulator, we were getting the ABS and brake warning lights coming on for a few seconds at the start of every brake application. Since replacing it, no appearance except the usual starting routine.

Replaced my accumulator when u got the car, seems to be working properly. Guessing i 'just' need to replace the front right sensor

Well, I did what I could my USB inspection cam once the temperatures dropped and I wasn't at sunstroke risk still.

Not that much benefit - the camera end is too long and stiff to get more than a partial view of the piston top.

Checked a couple of the good reading cylinders - piston crowns looked OK. Could see the arrow and a stamping for A08. Couldn't get it into 7 (suspected coolant leak point) and probably wouldn't be able to get a good enough view to learn anything I won't when I drag the heads off.

Got it into the 2 zero compression ones and the piston tops are thick black crinkly carbon build up, a bit like the sootier plugs on those ones too. So hopefully I have just got some badly carboned valves / seats to overhaul when it comes off and nothing worse. Cause of carboning when everything else seems to be reasonably sweet is yet to be determined.
Rabbit hole, here I come....

Are your values actually opening and closing? Just a thought
