hope u didn’t mind , ref the suspension travel etc i always find it fascinating how much they do actually flex on the D1 & D2

saw these the other day , yeh i know need to get out more ;)

You've got me started now!
Just need to look at every option and get opinions before I start tinkering with suspension as I could easily do more harm than good.
Like the super extension one. Just a little to complicated for me.. I dont know how to weld technology.. but interesting none the less.. i know what you mean about filling up a post and it was a good idea.. it might sink in with me one day.. I just babble on.. it's me that needs to get out more .Saying that it's cheaper to stay in.

Walked out the door and there was 3 kids scrounging for money for beer and tabs. I Don't condone it in anyway.. but I gave them a tenner each as i believe if they didn't get it from me they might have turned to crime to get there ciggies.. but I found out they had tricked me. they already had tabs and beer in there bags..
How could my own sons do that to there father!!

might be daft question.. but when they are raised all the way up like that.. do they still articulate much. Or is that? Just solid? Tell me if I'm stupid it not

they will still articulate into the arches if that makes sense , but in extended and super extended the system is designed to lower once ur clear of an obstruction

will try and find out in super extended mode what the end travel limit is

found this if it may be of interest, it mimics a beam axle , so as one wheel goes up other goes down

What's crosslinked air suspension?
In low range, when one wheel is forced up as the vehicle crosses uneven terrain the air suspension forces the opposite wheel down, thereby improving the chances of it touching the ground and also increasing weight on it. Both are good for traction.

The independent front suspension offers a reduction of un-sprung mass over the conventional beam axle design. The
suspension geometry features negative ground level off-set for improved control under braking. The suspension arms
have been designed for maximum ground clearance. Suspension geometry can be adjusted via the strut top mount
for camber and on the steering rack track rod ends for toe-in.


The following wheel travels are shown for on road and off-road vehicle operation. The difference between the two
operating conditions is a result of operation of the front cross-link valve. When the cross-link valve is opened the
suspension travel is as given for off-road wheel travel. When the cross-link valve is closed the suspension travel given
for on road applies.



The off road mode wheel travel is:
175 mm bump
95 mm rebound
This gives a total of 270 mm off road suspension travel.

The on road standard wheel travel is:
115 mm bump
155 mm rebound
This gives a total of 270 mm on road suspension travel.

only considered D4s and rangies to be posh ;):), tis nice and comfy though

half decent D3s are running around 7-8k

I think you will still be learning for the next few years. Seems an impressive , but complicated Bit of kit..
The write up about it makes more sense to me now. Taa for posting it. for some reason I couldn't get it into my tiny mind how it worked.
I really could justify 7k on a disco. I would love one..
But I'm a bit of knacka, and don't really look after things..
I had a immaculate Lexus GS 300 cream leather interior. Then my van broke down. So for a week I had a Lexus GS 300 with welders and grinders, bits of plate and boxsection sticking through the sun roof.
And basically halved its value in a week..

Would still be nice To have the comfy part you have..
I take it you don't have to scrape ice off the inside of your windscreen ??

ur not wrong there ,about learning , had landies for the last 30 x years and indeed this is a lot more complicated , but very slowly starting to get my head round the different systems

would have had a D2 but simply couldn’t find one without the chassis issue, then thought about a chassis swap, but alas with a screwed up back i knew i couldn’t have taken that amount of work on

then the D3 came up as a project and basically paid peanuts for it, has been a lot of work putting right the bodges others have done, but getting there , think another 6 x months work should have it squared away

how much work have u got left on urs plse , mods etc
 
it's all new technology , so I take it everything you did learn over 30 years does not apply to the D3 in anyway. Lol

Even without a bad back. A chassis swap looks like a pain in the bum anyway.
You could easily get disheartened as if the chassis is rotten everything else is going to be half buggered anyway..

6 month left on yours, are you being optimistic? Saying The nice weather is coming so you will be out enjoying the sunshine instead of getting Mucky fingers lol

Mine is one of those projects that will never end.. just done the wheel bearings and radiator issues. But unfortunately I had smashed my phone and couldn't take photos .. suspension bits next. It's got 3 inch lift. But I'm taking it up to 4 and wanting to space the body a bit as well..
but the nice weather is coming and it probably won't get done as I will be playing out lol.
 
A d2 chassis swap looks bad enough, seen adverts on ebay for 2 grand labor, so im guessing it's a hell of a job o_O

And they know what they are doing. But they put all your old bits back on:. If it was yourself doing it. You would rub them down prime and paint them.replaice this and that.. by the time it's finished.. the planet has ran out of fossil fuels.. and internal combustion engines are bannned.
I exaggerated a bit there. But you get my idea

Friend has done d1 chassis swaps with 2 tractors lifting the body.. but thats probably half the electrics.. think I'd just stick to cleaning and painting what you can from underneath unless your going galv.

And that sounds about right, although I must say, when my disco was flipped on its side the chassis work looked much more accessible :p

It doesn't matter with a D1 as the electrics don't fekin work anyway.. hand signals are more reliable!!! Cleaning and painting? That's woman's work!!
and before I get it in the neck off all the bra burning wifey landie owners.. I'm only joking..
she's a terrible painter!!

Haha.. if only you had your socket set with you at the time ..was it in good nick underneath anyway?
saying that:. Long screws through your floor might have give you a bit of a hill descent and could have saved you flipping it..;) have you got your self back on your feet anyway?? Or wheels even lol

A woman with a angle grinder wire brush attachment, let alone a sandblaster o_Oo_O

I always carry enough tools to repair anything that breaks.. just maybe not to that extent :rolleyes:
Not looking too bad underneath in all fairness, other than a little on the rear where someone had waxyoiled over the rust.
Wish you told me that before, would have gone and got myself some 12" screws haha

Well.. car should be getting towed back this week, and my flight is booked for Friday, So I'll be there to test drive yours at about 6 in the evening :p

Its a shame you decided to use it as a toboggan , if it's not inbad nick underneath!

Oh! And 12 inch screws in and a magic carpet wouldnt have saved it haha..
But I'm going to use 24 inch bolts and bolt mine to the fekin road so you can't have a shot lol..
