Welding question: Is this an MOT failure?

Getting my 300tdi 90 ready for waxoyling. After a thorough jetwash and tapping all over the chassis with a hammer I found this corrosion behind the offside rear wheel spring housing. It appears that the wheel spring housing has corroded slightly which has revealed the main chassis behind. There is an existing uniform pre-existing "slit" in the chassis as you can see ( picture). The advice I would like is if this "slit" should be welded over to ensure it passes the MOT. Thanks.

Yeah it needs cutting out and welding up. Ideally take the spring seat off to repair it properly. You might get away with plating it inside the spring bracket but you may find the corrosion extends behind it.

If it's on the offside remember your wiring runs through the chassis leg. Also that area is double skinned.

from memory, anything within a foot, i think, of any suspension mounts needs to be rot free and solid to pass an mot.

mine also has a slit in the rear. i think it's probably due to a new xmember being welded on. i don't have the rusty patch in front though :)
