I’m a bit confused.

so what you is saying is that you drove through somewater. then about 1 1/2 hours later it died. it had water around the battery.you got a jumpstart . then it died again... is this right???
how much later did it died again?
did you have the heater and other leccy stuff on?
is it a freelander?
what does it do when you turn the key??
can i go and stack ma bong??

well, the second time he went to turn on the lights and it died, nothing happened when he turned the key, one or twice it made a light clicking sound, not its not a freewheeler, yes you may.

so that leaves not a lot. if it was the battery getting wet that caused it it would have showed itself when the battery got wet not 1 1/2 hours later.
so as far as i can tell ,from here, its either the alt or the fuel cut off solenoid.
i suspect the alt is soggy and not charging which would explain what you describe..
i prescribe you borrow a hairdryer from one of the freelander 'boys?' and try and dry it wit that. of course you would need to check that indeedy there was no output from the alt first.
i'll assume that it have a fuel cutoff solenoid rather than a stop cable so you might want to look at that aswell.
