Just waying up an install off a thermotop, with lpg packed above the steering column on the battery side I reckon i will have to locate it under the cruise control cable down by the exhaust manifold. But running the coolant hoses will have to go over the back behind the plenum next to the ignition module?

Do I tee it in or put it in line.

Cheers chaps.

It should be put in line, between exit from engine and intake on heater matrix. I put mine between the battery and coolant bottle, not sure where else to fit it but anywhere will do - within reason.
Mine is working fine, but a word of warning: If you rig it to run your blowers to heat the cabin, it will drain your battery unless you drive for at least as long as you run the heater. I have rigged mine with speed controllers for the fans, to bring down power consumption, but I will now also install a timer, to run the fans only for the last 10 minutes of the cycle. The P38 blowers are bigger than most, and you have two of them!

Cheers for the info,

Just been looking under the bonet, there inst much room at all. I was thinking off putting a tee in the line to the matrix from the engine (inlet to the heater) and one on the inlet to the pump (outlet off the heater).

Locating the webasto as previous.

Any thoughts?

I only do about 10 mile to work at the moment so warming the engine for the gas switch over is my priority. I will connect the fans at some point though. I want to connect a gsm switch for the heater first. Anyone know where the best place to get one from is?.

That remote is fantastic, in the link, maplin just down the road, I think that will do. Forget the gsm switch for now, thankyou for that much appreciated.

No there is one on fleebay at the moment, I bought a diesel one and found a little tank to fill with diesel, because it came with pump and zoorst, I knew it worked too.

regarding the difference between the petrol and diesel thermotp, there is no phsyical difference, the difference is only in the software on the circuit board, i think ou can alter the speed of the fuel pump in the software but not sure how.

if this is the case then there is no such thing as a petrol or diesel just a setting!!

i have had a petrol one in the past but the pcb was shagged so it didnt run

Yep, I was told it was, guy said any probs give him a call. Genuine guy, I hope. I plan on stripping it to clean out the carbon first.

Mine is petrol and works like a charm. There's a guy in Poland who sells used ones on ebay, could have been I found him on German Ebay. It came with a new wiring loom, new timer and loads of coolant hose, fuel lines and connectors. Complete package for about £500. I added a GSM relay to mine, which is sweet!
I don't think T'ing into the coolant lines will work very well, the problem being you will have no control over the flow of hot water. You could end up circulating it only through your matrix, leaving your engine just as cold. If you can plumb a hose from your tee to the heater, I don't see why plumbing it in series - which is the proper way - would be any harder? If you don't want to waste any heat in the heater matrix, simply plumb the webasto in downstream of the matrix instead of upstream. This way your coolant will transfer pretty much all its heat to the engine before it even reaches the matrix. This is not so good, though, if you plan to hook up the fans later.

Few options with the tee in points then. The instructions I have for the heater show the thermotop in series with the inlet to the matrix (no doubt this is best for warming up the cab), but then go on further down to indicate engine heating for big diesel engines all with feeds into the thermotop from the top of the engine and outlet of the thermo top to the bottom of the engine. Problems arise with the v8 with its matrix bypass which comes straight off the inlet manifold back to the thermostat and suction of the engine water pump.

Either way it is plumbed in I think the main circulation will be around the bypass and not through the engine block any thoughts?

If I plumb it in as I said before, this adds another bypass and may cause less heat to flow to the matrix when the engines running. HHMM. Best option at the moment I think is to put it in the matrix feed as you say (access is better too), heat loss with the fans off should be minimal anyway, and hopefully most of the heat will be taken in by the block through the pump inlet and not pass back up the bypass.

Ideally the only way I see it possible to direct flow to the engine is through the feed to the pump from the thermostat, only way of making sure this happens is by putting it in series, (I do not want to put it in series there it will offer to much of a restriction).

If you run a hose from the heater matrix exit to entry on the webasto, and then a line from webasto exit to where the matrix exit would normally be connected, you will dispose of pretty much all your heat in the engine block before it reaches the heater matrix. This would be my choice, if heating the engine were the primary goal.

Probably the best bet, I am tempted to move my vapourisers to make room on the right hand side. Save running the coolant hoses over the back of the engine.

Cheers

you soon get bored of using it...have one on mine..hardly use it..and its remote etc...only of any use 2 weeks a year in london..(if that)

oh..if anyone want one go german ebay..paid £200 for mine with everytihing, including remote

I may of misread here or I'm loosing the plot but what has coolant lines got to do with it.
surely all you need is electrics and a fuel supply?

OK, revisiting this one since I seem to have finished all the other problems for now, I have been weighing up putting it on the right of the engine bay but this means it will be too near the manifolds for my liking, space down there is limited.

anyone know if you can get a small windscreen washer bottle from another vehicle that will fit a P38 and then squeeze it in there. To be honest this is the only place left I think it can go, without to much messing about with huge lengths of coolant hose etc.
