I have a 2001 disco 2 TD5. Ive just found that the drivers floor mat and carpet are quite wet and I am wondering if anyone can throw some light on the problem.
The water seems to be coming from around the hot air vent / heater outlet

  1. There is absolutely no loss of coolant.
  2. Water temp normal
  3. The water in the foot-well has no colour and doesn't have the tell-tail smell of coolant
  4. The windscreen was replaced about 4 months ago
  5. The car lives outside and it did rain heavily last night
  6. I only noticed the wet this evening and the day has been dry where I live
Thoughts so far is a leaking windscreen?

Is there a drain pipe anywhere that could get blocked causing water to back up into the cabin?

Thoughts suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks

May I suggest yOU DO A SEARCH FFS

i recently had a leak coming in, couldnt figure it out and then one day whilst squeezing past my truck holding onto it for balance i accidentally pulled the drivers side windscreen rubber half off - i found my leak! it turns out even though it looked ok upon further inspection the adhesive had failed along the top and the side rubbers, all sorted with a tube of black boat silicone.

By the way has anyone else noticed the steady influx of newbies on LZ at the mo, they seem to appear, get what they want and then dissapear again (bit like my ex missus) I recently went on a PS3 forum for my lad and i couldnt start a thread until I had contibuted to at least 10 posts, seems like a good idea....

Problem solved.
For the benefit of Redhand I did try a search but being new to the forum I perhaps did not refine that search sufficiently to be able to obtain meaningful results. May I thank you most warmly though Redhand for the friendly & helpful advice to someone new to the forum. Its good to know that I can call on such altruistic members as you in the future.

Hi I have just joined up because I have the same misterious leak into drivers footwell. Thought is was after the windscreen was replaced so Autoglass replaced it again and cleaned carpet, but now it is soaking again! Help please if anyone can advise? Cannot see any leaks from sun roof. Many thanks.

Roll the carpet up. cut out the foam underlay and put away to dry and then with a dry floor watch next time it rains for the direction the water is coming from. That's to start with.

And :welcome2: to the Forum.

Common cause of this is aircon drains blocking. This will show as wet, sometimes hot patch on the gearbox tunnel. The drains go down either side of the gearbox and have something that is supposed to keep the dust out. However, the water and the dust become mud and block the pipe. It's an easy, but messy fix, and you WILL end up with a sleeve full of water! Let me know if you want full instructions.
Cheers!

hi. i have the same problem...drivers footwell only....i thought it was due to a faulty windscreen done by autoglass so had them replace it ( and got the car valeted ).......now the carpet is soaking again and autoglass are adamant its not the window...so dont go rushing into replacing the window is my point...does anyone know how water is likely to get in under or around the door? which is my next best guess

Hi Graham, would it be possible for you to PM me these instructions, I have a footwell like a swamp

I know this is an old thread..... If you are still there Graham, would you be able to PM me details? My Driver's side is very wet. I had the aircon regassed and I think it has got worse since doing so.

Have a look at my threads - I have a drivers footwell ingress problem also that is not AC related - it may help you also. I found the windscreen was not correctly bonded and had that pulled and refitted but still had some ingress but not much. I've resealed both sunroofs, cleaned out drain holes & pipes - all the usual suspects it seems. Yesterday I pulled all the interior out of my D2 and found that water has also been coming through rear bolt holes for the seats...

I've just done this again on my Discovery 2 - my wife though she had been bitten by an insect - turned out that the aircon drains were blocked and when they back up, the water ends up getting somewhere hot, probably into the heater matrix.

Anyway to fix
1. Wear old clothes - you will get dirty and you will get an armful of cold water!
2. If you've got air suspension, raise the car to give you a bit more room. You could also jack the car but make sure it is safe. Do the work with a cold engine as you need to get your hand up alongsied the exhaust.
3. Slide underneath the car around the drivers door. You want to be underneath the gearbox. Look up alongside the gearbox. About 6 inches towards the rear of the car behind where the tunnel starts to narrow after the bellhousing, there is a small pipe coming through the side of the tunnel. It's quit high up - almost level with the top of the gearbox.
4. In the end of the pipe is a conical device pointing down. This clips into place in the pipe and the cone has slits in the side. The idea is that is is a self sealing plug to keep dust out. The water can seep pout of the slots but no dust goes back up. Shame it doesn't work very well.
5. If you jiggle the end of the cone, you'll probably dislodge enough dirt to get some water flowing, which will go straight down your arm!
6. Grasp the conical but and pull gently and it will come out of the pipe and more water may come out. You will probably fine the cone is full of mud. Clean thouroughly, and then push back into place.
7. Drivers side has more room. Passenger side you've got to squeeze alongside the exhaust. I could do this easily on the Disco 1 but my automatic Disco 2 I find that I end up just poking the cone with a stick or long screwdriver - getting it out is a pain on this side.

Good luck! Almost certainly this is the issue if you are not seeing water ingress elsewhere, but Disco's do leak
1. Windscreen not bonded correctly
2. Sunroofs
3. Roof rails mountings
4. Top of the A Pillar
5. The bulkhead
Any or all of the above could cause wet floors.

Cheers!

Why ?? If somebody needs help and you can help, why not just help them, that why we have these forums isn't it, because we all know what it's like to need help !!
Come on lads what kind of people are we ?

I have recently bought a disco 4 and had the passenger footwell flood on me, iv been advised to get the windscreen re sealed at bottom, iv had about 15 cars in my life and can't understand why Land Rover are having these reoccurring problems , my car is 2011 disco4
Iv had leaking sunroof , rattling front bushes, leaking windscreen and am just waiting for the next problem.
Can I just ask you fellas here, is there any point keeping a second hand disco or is it going to be like this continuously , surely they can't be this ****e
