regardless of the weld quality , tjhe tube looks too thin walled to me and the reinforcing angle dont go right to the end either....if it was longer and actually attached to the bar that the tube slides over it would be a far stronger assembly. poor design as well as bad welding
 
I could weld better than that using a fookin soldering iron....... that's switched off!! :eek: What a mess, seems like there is no penetration what so ever. Dangerous if you ask me!
 
Umm.. should I be worried?
I've got a pair of these on my Disco. Had them on for about 18 months now. I'm going to go out and check them 1st thing in the morning before I head off to work.

Might be a prudent idea:)
 
The tube is too thin ,you can see he has double sleeved the pin to get to fit the tube inner diameter,but not tight enough and not enough pin length inside the tube which can allow movement which= fatique and bad weld = failure
I make my trailing arms out of 2"x .250 cds you can bounce them off rocks

I can understand the theory of the presentation, but hasnt been very well executed (not flattering at all)... I can put him in touch with an excellent photographer that specialises in this sort of thing (he has done work for MaxPower n Nuts magazines in the past) if he needs;

Look more substantial to me. but s'pose you get what you pay for.

i have had this guy a friend do a lot of work on my landy and believe this may be a one off as he does do a fair few with not a complaints ... he is a decent welder and done many welds to my disco !!

he has also made my back bumper that i love so i think it may be down to bad weld i dont no but this guy is normally very good !!!

and as i no him i have every confidence that if i want some making that i will use him ... not just saying that... if you can prove me wrong please do but i think he is a top bloke !!!

Do the above pirctures not prove you wrong (lets face it it seems to be the case on both sides, so, not a one off) - that and as other people have mentioned, the metal used is thinner than they would expect, etc.
 
I bought a set of their arms about 18 months ago, The welding on the ends looked ok but I wasn't convinced about the reinforcing bit, the welding was pretty poor quality. Having said that, they have seen 18 months of pretty good abuse and my trailing arm bracket bent over the arms snapping.

I spoke to the bloke a bit when ordering them, he was a nightmare to get hold of and the arms turned up some weeks later than promised.

I was planning on stripping them down myself and making them stronger although I might just start from scratch now with solid bar. The last thing I want is for them to break either towing heavy loads or in the mud.

I'd need better photos, or preferably the failure point under a microscope to be positive, but it looks to me like there is no penetration on the weld in places, or just no weld there.

Fatigue has very specific markings, even more so when there is rust present in the failure area.
 
Had the welds checked out today by professional welders and they said that the welding was appalling and using superglue is properly safer than his welding lol

They LOOK serious quality. When you look at the rear arms, there's no reinforcing, which does raise an obvious question! If the tube is strong enough why would you need to reinforce it? So surely if the tube needs reinforcing its inferior quality to start with?
 
I no this post is old but I'm glad I seen it I have a off road pajero I read a article about how good tarantula 4x4 are at making off road products
DON'T think I will bother wasting my time or money :mad:
