A lot of you must think I'm crazy but I'm determined to sort out this Freelander V6 of mine. I've managed to source the various bits I'm needing and the heads are about to be checked and the lot re-assembled. However I'm going to need the 'special' timing kit specific to the KV6 engine. Does anyone have a kit for sale. Cheapest I've seen are brand new at £295... ouch.!!

If you're feeling charitable and you've got a kit gathering dust, let me know.

Thanks - Salmo.

I see the idiots still here.

There was one on ebay. £160. asking for offers.

I'm going to make mine myself. Just going to copy the position of the cogs as it is, into metal, then clamp the cogs with it and swop belts. Simple to type! Will do it next April. Have also been promised a photocopy of the kit from my main dealer too, to measure.

Thanks Guy's for the comments, even Hippo's which I found mildly offensive but hey, one V6 'blessed' idiot to another, 'if you get the timing tool photo-copies, let me know'

Sorry Salmo I didn’t make it clear above. I was pointing the finger at bob. He’s the idiot, not you. He’s well known for it on the web. One of those trolls you hear about. His reply to your post is typical bob.

I posted some v6 video’s previously here > http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/rover-engine-training-videos-youtube-67042.html

I’ve also downloaded them too if ever they disappear.

A possible tool to buy is the sealey kit “vs1290” for the timing set-up. If you mess up the timing, you have to go through a process of setting up the timing manually by looking at the position of cylinders etc. Was warned by a past rover mech that it’s just not worth the risk.

Yep it was me on the mg-rover forum. Having been looking towards doing my belt change too. Been collecting info and ideas. Have also agreed in principle to have it published in a certain land rover magazine, for owners, if it’s good enough. That’s several months away as I plan to do mine in April this years.

Also I have a photocopy of the “car mechanics” magazine articles on the v6 timing belt change they did on a rover 800, thanks to a member on here sending it to me. It’s in July and August 2008 issues. Also a Freelander v6 diagnostic in June 2007. PM me if your interested in them. ;)

Below is a main dealer parts list of what I need for my v6 belt change.

My apologies Hippo, trust me to be barking up the wrong tree.! It's not the first time for me and won't be the last, I'm sure.

It's thanks to You, MHM and ianda12 that I'm beginning to feel a bit more confident in attempting this rebuild.

I'll keep in touch.

Many thanks again.
