well done Trevor, the VM is not the best loved engine but I thought they had it nearly sorted with the 2.5. Was that engine not in early 90 Jeep Cherokees as well. If so they're a good source of parts, there was a lot more of those sold than VM RRs.

IMHO the best engine (diesel) ever in a RR was the 200tdi. What a willing, almost unbreakable lump. I loved my one.
The BMW is a really sweet engine when its chipped but like you said preventative maintainence is crucial with it. My 99 DSE has cost me a bomb but has since repaid in spades in driving pleasure and I can't see myself driving anything else as long as I can keep it or a replacement running.

Hi
Its no good me preaching to the vertues of the VM 2.5 to the blinkered BUT I think they are fine IF YOU KEEP THEM COOL in the ford SCORPIO the header tank is on the rocker box. the highest point, no chance of airlocking AND in 5 years constant use NO overheating and no reliability problems!!!!

As I now have a VM rebuild problem, I have an engine with a leaking fuel pump that needs rebuilding, but to remove the pump you need a special tool which holds the pump drive gear in place and pushes the pump shaft out of the gear...
Has anybody got such a tool ?? or know where one can be bought .. Your help will be most welcome John..

Your right, it was used in the Jeep Cherokee diesel which I was once interested in buying till I found out it was VM powered. I remember all the problems with the individual cylinder heads (one per cylinder) due to overheating on the RR which at the time cost £250 each to repair. No thanks.
