Viscous coupling advice UPDATE

They don't think look like the bits of metal that normally come out of an IRD. Normally they are little shards - thin, sharp bits. They look like little beeds of solidified molten metal. Would be interesting to see what other people think - maybe Nodge is right, they have been in there since it was made.

However - the colour of the oil is what you would want to see in a decent IRD.
 
I don't think there is an issue with the IRD myself. Get some synthetic 75w90 GL5 oil in and forget about it for 25K miles;)
