VIN Numbers

Today I found out that the RR VIN number can be seen through the windscreen at the bottom of the left-hand side. I can see that this was quite useful to wealthy new owners. Lost keys? Call main dealer. Dealer asks for VIN but car is in Fort Knox mode and paperwork is somewhere in Highbury.

Is this a 'unique' feature to RR or is it common to all modern cars?

Not a particularly useful piece of information but I found it mildly interesting. I'm sure my Ford Anglia 100E didn't have this facility.

Yup. Could have saved the question with a little local research.

Duty solicitor reckons that because I've not got form for it, I should be home by late evening.

It may be EU now but I think it came from the US,my 1973 Chev Camaro had visible vin.

I thought it was to aid identification of the chassis whilst on the production line. At least thats what I've been told.

All my recent cars have been made in the 1990's and they all had it.
