I've looking on Rimmer's web site catalogue and I'm unsure of the VIN number reference.

Can someone assist please?

When it says "to VIN YA999999"? What year / model is that?
Would that be for 1997 to 2002?

and what about "VIN 1A000001 on" - is that for 2003 to 2006?

HTR:)

If your vin starts 1A you need thepart for a 1A vehicle.
If not you need the ealrier part. They went to 1A about 2001/51 plate.

The last eight digits of the Vin are

1x Year
1x Assembly Plant
6x Serial number

Year code Y is 2000
Year code 1 is 2001
Assembly Plant A is Solihul

YAxxxxxx Is every freelander produced upto the end of 2001
1Axxxxxx Is every freelander produced from the beginning of 2002

As a very rough guide....

If you have orange indicator lenses on the front, then its pre YA999999
If you have clear indicator lenses its a post 1A000001

Every year LR slightly alters the spec of its cars, these are known as Model Years.
This is usually done just before/after the new year, so say a 2002MY could have been built and sold in 2001.
We used to sell more cars at the start of the new Model Year than at the start of the new registration, that is until the Freelander came out and common riff raff started buying new Land Rovers.

Look at your V5 (log book). Look for VIN/Chassis/Frame No. in section 4 'Vehicle Details' approx half way down on the left. It will begin SAL... (probably) . Take the last 8 characters of the VIN - that's what they're referring to.
