Range Rover p38 vibration at idle" (please youtube should be top of the list)

Ok so there is loads of stuff on here and all over the internet about this type of vibration but nothing on what causes it or how to fix it...

Ive done this Youtube video to show you what mine sounds like and if you lot can come up with some things to try that I havent already done I'm happy to be the guinea pig and I'll have it done...

Vibration sounds like its coming from transfer box and if you push on it the vibration stops/lessons

your thoughts....

Is it a noise or actually vibration? From your Vid it's more sound than vibration, sounds like the old cigarette packet on the bike spokes we did as kids.
The M51 normally vibrates a bit at idle, I'd be looking at heat shields loose, exhaust touching body, engine/gearbox mounts and so on. Basically anything that could vibrate in sympathy with the normal M51 idle even the serpentine belt.

Thanks for watching Datatek. Its a noise/vibration I guess. Ive replaced the engine and gearbox mounts and its not changes much/at all exhaust doesnt seem to be fouling in any way...

I'll go and get a better video of the sound for you to listen to. I agree that it does sound like its touching something when the drive line torque drops but Im stumped as to what....

I would not bother with another vid, a strong light and time looking around would be more use.:)
I've even known a brake line to make a noise not unlike that when the mounts broke.

Ive gone and made one anyway... from my hours of searching Ive not seen anything on this so might be useful to someone in the future.

This vibration is defiantly coming from the transfer box area I went to the front of the gear box where the flex plate is and couldnt hear anything when levering around with my bar.

hope the new vid shows the sound more...

When shifting to low range it does make the sound during the Hi to Low change over...

Check the T/box output bearings, do you have any lift in them? With the motor idling, put your bar between the output flanges and the box to see if the noise stops. I have a little vibration which I can stop by lifting the propshafts. Job for the future is to fit my spare t/box.

Low range works fine I tested it today to make sure. when you slide it across in N the noise doesnt happen. If you select 4,R,3,2,1 the noise is there. Its the same in Hi box D,R,3,2,1 all make the noise breifly when being selected.

Are you thinking this may be the shift linkages?

Just thinking or things in the transfer box that might make noise.
I still think it's external.
