Hi...i have a 90 defender with a 3.5efi engine. I have been told the engine is getting on a bit but she keeps on going and the more she gets pushed the better she seems to get. However, whe off roading or pottering around town on a hot day the gear box area knocks out a massive amount of heat to the extent that i actually start sweating. Anyone got any clues out there? I'm assuming its nothing to do with the engine as the temperature gauge stays pretty steady.

Its just summit you have to put up with my 4.2 v8 was like it, you may benefit from an oil change in t/box and gearbox but it will still be hot around the tunnel area

I have got a v8 in my 90, no sound insulation or heat proofing and must admit it does get quite warm, benefit in winter bit warm in summer, was out all day yesterday but not too bad just used the aircon to help, (opened windows and air vents :p ) as wlm says change oils in boxes may help but generally they are warm in use

heaters are not good in the defender so give up the whining and reap the benifits in winter not like us tdi mongrals !!!

The V8 engine stays cool because its getting rid of loads of heat that it got from burning massive amounts of petrol:rolleyes: The cab always gets hot because the seatbase . floor etc are ali and they are absorbing a lot of heat from all the hot air that is coming from the engine bay , as well as the bulkhead , the only way to reduce it is insulating the cab , and increasing the amount of air that goes thru the engine bay apart from coming thru the rad , wrapping the exhaust manifolds, etc . HTSH

Thanks for responses so far...i sort of felt it was something i had to get used to as everything seemed to be running well (appart from the usual rattles!)....as you say i'll make the most of it in the winter :)
