How much is the silicone? For the price, I’d give it a go, and if I wasn’t happy with the result, I’d get a replacement ;)

I'd be concerned about how worn the plates are. Although I guess injecting 150mm of fluid is cheaper than a replacement. I'm curious as to who has done the refurbishment on it, if that's what it had.

The invoice shows it being replaced in 2010 by a transmission centre in Leek, Staffordshire with a cost of just over £400...

Presumably the owner didn't know about Bell Engineering, which would have done a decent refurb for half that amount. Back in 2010, a new VCU was under £400, so that crappy "refurb" was expensive.

Am struggling to understand this.

The VCU is made up of the drum int middle (the VCU itself) and two axles coming out of it, one either side. One of the axles is permanently connected to the vcu and turns with it. The other axle travels into the VCU and turns separate to the VCU. Each axle is connected to one prop, either front or rear.

Can you confirm the following:

When all 4 wheels are ont ground, lift one rear wheel. What happens when turning the wheel? The rear prop will turn. Does one or both vcu axles turn at the same time?

If only one axle turns theres something wrong with the VCU if it's turning freely with no resistance. If both axles turn and the front prop is stationary then the VCU axle to prop connection has failed.

If both props turn then there's something wrong in the ird.
