I have had so many things go wrong on my P38 I thought I'd plan for the worst.

Will the Omega /BMW car engine adapt to replace the P38 BMW 2.5 and if so anyone on here done the conversion?

as straight forward as a another range rover lump everything fits except the turbo/air-con pump/engine mounts/flywheel if it is an auto note which way around the flywhhel is as they will go on back-to-front rendering the crank sensor useless.Starter/alternator/injectors/wiring loom and fuel pump are all the same pump is not coded and the reference injector (one with the wire on it)does not have to be changed did mine last year from a 2001 omega

Thanks for the info Ian. As a matter of interest what did you pay for the engine? It seems there is little or no market for Omega bits but one or two of the breakers add a premium if they know you are looking for Range Rover parts.

On recently renewed my turbo. Cost me 100 pounds plus the vat. A recon one was over 500. I think mine was off an Omega as the garage had to use some of my old turbo to make it a goer.

Were there any electronics issues or did your conversion start first time?

sorry for the late response been away i forgot to mention the sump is different you have to put rangie one on i paid £450 for a 2001 with 61k on it he copied the old mots to prove and sent a picture of the dash so i was fairly confident that the mileage was right ,i got it off fleesebay from a place down south i live in the midlands and rangie engines are about £1500 from 4*4 breakers the lowest had 130k on it so i told him where to shove his engines once i put the lump in started first crack i left all the omega bits on dont mention you want one for a rangey cuz they all think weve got money to burn and the price doubles

dont forget to change the oil pick up when you change the sump, also bottom pulley if donor engine is non air con.

i'd be inclinded to use the 325tds lump as they were 150bhp(iirc) and the 325td and omega were only 115(again iirc). i had a E36 325td and that was auto and gutless as hell(just one thing to think about)
HTH

when i went to change mine i also noticed on autodata disc that bmw list a 325tds (156bhp) which i would have loved to have got but when i spoke to a bmw dealer as to years and how to tell the difference they were adamant it didnt exist in the m51 version and therefore wouldnt fit i have dealt with the same dealership from my garage for 15 years and never found them anything but helpful and that phonecall was the the end of my search for the elusive 150bhp engine

hi has anyone fitted a bmw diesel 325 into a petrol p38?. mines a 4ltr 1998 gems type, with the bottom end gone,im having trouble sourcing an engine for less than a thousand pounds.im thinking diesel would be cheaper as can source from an omega.whats involved in apetrol to diesel conversion?
or is there a cheaper alternative to the 4.0 lt petrol ie 3.9,then fit a lpg system? as the fuel prices are extortionate and the cars got a drink problem! would appreciate any advice thanks
