Last month i bought a new 85 AH Bosch battery for my TD5 Discovery from a car spares unit in Leamington Spa,Cost me about £85,But before i removed the old battery i put a 12 volt supply onto the battery leads,Wife held the crocodile clips on the red and black leads under the bonnet with no complaint lol. That way i kept the radio codes etc,

I was sceptical about Halfords batteries, but after replacing Bosch batteries every two years (due to lack of use), my father bought a Halfords with lifetime guarantee and it's been 6 years so far with no problems.

Not a Halfords fan, but in this case it worked out well.

Right, had the battery on charge all night, approx 15 hours. Stuck the multimeter on it today, first read 13.6V, then dropped quickly at first to 13.1, then as i was holding the multimeter on it just slowed but still steadily decreased at 0.1V every 10 seconds or so, the battery clearly has an issue. I tried it one more time in the car anyway to be sure and it lit up the dash and sluggishly pushed out the steering wheel but turn the key to start and everything dies. Hopefully it's a fluke. I'll take it back just now and get them to test the replacement they give me before I take it away.

When you disconnect the battery it resets the steering wheel angle sensor, which is required for either the DSC/ABS or both, so doing a full lock to lock tells the system where the end points are and therefore the position of the steering wheel :)

Thanks, never done that, will try and see if it makes any difference (batt. was changed recently.)

SUCCESS!! Took battery back to halfords, they checked it and found that one of the cells in it was dead, so gave me a replacement which they checked before I took it away. Put it in the car and it fired up straight away :) No HDC inactive light on start, no other unusual errors and no sound problems :) seems just about any fault on a range rover can be caused by the battery! Thanks for your help everyone, panic over!
