Hello all.
This afternoon went to fill up the Td4. In short Iv'e put 30 ltr of petrol in the tank by mistake. Feel such a Twonk. As I live round the corner I drove it home, It would seem the petrol hasn't come through yet.
Is there any way I can drain the tank? Un-do a fuel line or pump it out?
Any help or advice will be very welcome Pal's.
Thanks for your time on this.
Cheers.

I've emptied tanks on scrap Td4 by putting a switch with 2 x 6mm spades in place of the fuel pump relay then disconnecting fuel line from filter and extending into a can. You can then switch on and off when can full. Fuel pump relay is in under bonnet fuse box, put switch in place of relay contacts. We all make mistakes!!!

Thanks for your reply Andy.
Is that the filter under the rear wheel arch? Just to ask, I would need the ignition on for this, yes?
Thanks for your time.
Gary.

If you have later car with pump in wheel arch then yes. You could disconnect in engine bay where it feeds to hp pump but then you'd fill filter with petrol I guess. Ignition on to power main relay and feed to fuel pump relay yes. Contacts to switch were marked 30 and 87 on my car. Numbers are on relay you remove. For ease you could dis fuel pipe in engine bay and when petrol stops coming pour in a couple of gallons of diesel and pump until that appears then reconnect, drive to garage and full up...... With diesel!!!

Hi Andy.
Can I ask, If I disconnect at the HP pump and turn the Ignition on would that not empty the tank? Stick with me, I am a mechanic numty.

When you've drained all you can. Fill the tank with a couple of gallons of fresh diesel, with 100ml of mineral 2 stroke oil per gallon of fuel added. This will combat the lubricant stripping affect of the petrol, helping to protect the HP fuel pump. ;)

Hello all.
Update.. Went down a different route as not sure about getting it right with the relay. As the fuel pump is accessed on the rear o/s wheel arch, decided to take Andy,s advice, but further down the line. took the plug connector off the pump and the OUT connector off the fuel filter. Linked up the power to the pump from a 12v battery and the OUT from the filter to drain. Empty in 20 Mins. I always use 2 stroke, and fallowed advice on this. Prior to this mini crisis I had used Comma Injector cleaner in the previous two fill ups, and was happy with the results.Better tick over and quieter engine, more throttle response. This incident seems to have improved on that! How does that work??
Thanks to all that replied.
Cheers.

Thanks Nodge.
This mishap has seemed to put things in better shape, but will not be doing it again in a hurry.
Cheers all.
