I haven't worked on any land rovers and have no experience working on vehicles but just thinking out loud here. Since the vehicle does turn over and the exhaust "pops" would it have something to do with either the fuel mixture or timing. Perhaps a faulty vacuum line to the fuel rail, faulty maf sensor, a bad injector. Also a faulty crank sensor would cause a issue with timing and ignition. Is the nanocom not able to show live data? I'm currently trying to figure out which diagnostic tool i need to work on the v8.

***UPDATE*** no power going to the fuel pump . Got code P1231 fuel pump relay fault. Is this a BCM or grey fuse box fault? I really need the car to start. Wife is threatening to scrap me and the car if I can't get an answer to the issue.....

check the relay and fuse in the fusebox as a starter (pun intended)
check for 12v at the relay

Both were checked by my neighbour with his trusty multimeter and are ok. Why would it suddenly not start after being spot on. Would a dead battery cause it to **** the bed and do some sort of immobiliser voodoo? Even when the only code I get is this one?

Does anyone know how to do that with a Nanocom? I don't have the current and only ignition key number. How do I find that out? Nanocom has 5 key numbers listed but I have no idea which one is my key.

Yes I have it's part of the key
Then it should be simple.
P38 is key in door move to lock push the button, move to unlock push the button (or the other way round).
or
Put in ignition and push unlock.
It depends on year.
As I say I don't know the D2 but wouldn't imagine its vastly different, it will be in the manual.
