Actually, the laptop was for some reason not showing in device manager the com port, I used driver wizard program and it loaded up the latest driver for my cable.
I had to have the cable plugged in and then update driver, using driver wizard.
all is now fixed. thanks to all that provided/offered advice.
btw, the error message on the eas was - pressure signal constant high
and vehicle has moved. ANYONE know what this means?

I get this one periodically. As I understand it, it just means that the pressure switch has not changed state for a while, implying that the suspension isn't getting to full pressure. This isn't always the case though. It could actually be a dodgy pressure switch but apparently these rarely fail.

I think it usually means there is a leak somewhere, but I wouldn't worry too much about it. I used to get it very frequently but haven't had it for ages since I changed my airbags (even though I've still got a leak somewhere).

The vehicle has moved error always seems to come up when another error triggers a fault. Seems to be meaningless.

interesting to note that after airbag change no more faults... I always thought it would be a bit more guess work. I mean eas ecu, pressure switch, height sensors, block valve, airbags, air lines etc, check or replace according to funds... Is there anymore accurate way to find out what's wrong? There has to be some sort of flow diagram somewhere.

Well it is interesting as I still have a problem (ie a slow leak - pretty sure it's in the valve block) but it seems to have stopped that message from coming up. I would get it a couple of times a day sometimes, but it's gradually got less and less frequent and I haven't had it for ages now and not at all since the airbags were changed.

Unfortunately it's kind of a general purpose error that isn't actually very helpful. All it means is that the pressure switch isn't registering full pressure in the system. It might be caused by a dodgy pressure switch, a weak compressor, or a leak.

As I understand it, the pressure switch is the thing that should tell the compressor to stop running. The other thing that stops it is the overheat temperature sensor which is supposed to stop the pump from burning out if it's running for too long.

If the overheat sensor stops the pump before the pressure switch is registering sufficient pressure (ie if there is an air leak of the compressor is knackered) then this error will be generated (eventually anyway - I understand that this needs to happen quite a few times before the system logs it as a fault).

Does your compressor run frequently and for a long time? If so, then that would tend to re-inforce one of the issues.

Hope that ramble helps a bit.

My compressor does not seem to run excessivly or run hot. I used to think when ever it was raining or if was damp on the road the message would pop up, but that idea was quashed when I had it appear on a run up to Blackpool, on a flat road on a dry day. When I read the faults they always are the same. I have spent many hours reading many forums but no solid answers, some say, block valve, or height sensors, airbags etc. firing shots in the dark here. Still looking for the answer. Amazing still, for however long the EAS system has been around , no one seems to understands its error messages!

Hi

Could be do to with the communication settings on your laptop com port
Baud settings are the best thing to alter, you wont do it any damage to the laptop by fiddling with these.

You can access them by right clicking on my computer, then manage then device manager, then click on + symbol next to ports. select appropriate port for device, then right click and then properties. port settings is the second tab from left

Hope this helps

Well the problem with that particular one is that it can be caused by a number of different faults. What it's actually saying is simply that the pressure in the system often isn't getting high enough to trip the pressure cut-off switch.

It can be very frustrating though, I agree. I bought a kicker to save having to carry a laptop round with me and I've only had that fault twice since, so perhaps the presence of an EAS kicker in the glovebox was all it needed. :)
