urgent advice required to fit push rod clip in defender gearbox

guys the clutch slave failed this morning and I'm changing it now. But when I took the slave off the pushrod came off with it.
I have all the parts and I've made a little tool with some tube and a screw to hold it all steady while I refit it.
but I can't get it back on. Does it have to be fed over the large round and onto the flat or do I just push hard and clip it on

dont bother with the clip just put push rod in its seat in the lever whilst holding it there by pushing on the slave once its pushed up rod wont come out

I used lock wire to hold the arm in place and using the tool I'd made I was able to refit it
