Thanks for the reply, that's what l wanted to know at these larger intercoolers are not cheap.
What made me think it might be worth fitting one, was that in cooler weather (such as the evening after a hot day) the Defender definitely feels more responsive and l wondered if a larger intercooler might produce this effect.
But from what you've done in testing, it sounds like it won't.
I put one on my 300tdi and the difference was massive although maybe because it's a clunky old engine compared to the TD5 which has turbo pick up most of the way through the rev range.Will fitting one make any difference to a standard Defender TD5 that has not been remapped?

It did on my 300tdi. In addition to de-catting it, EGR blanking, K&N air filter and boost pin, which is the 300tdi of remapping, roughly anyway. I haven't touched the turbo or manifold.....yet!!!!So just an uprated intercooler made a massive difference? no other mods at all, tweaked etc?
