Hey guys is there any way to unlock an ECU or is it a specialist job a friend has given me a chipped ECU but its locked to another RR. can a test book do this or autologic ... just wondering.

If the chipped ECU is same part no as your existing one then I think it will work. You will have to get someone with a Nanocom or Autologic to tell BECM to learn code.
I'm sure other more experienced guys will clarify.:scratching_chin:

A locked diesel EDC cannot be unlocked. However it is not necessary, just need diagnostics to re-sync the BECM to the EDC. Make sure it is the right type for your model year, EGR or non EGR.

Yes it should work as long as the ECU plug fits. Later engine ECUs had a slightly different plug. I think with the introduction of EGR.
It just needs the immobilisation code syncing between the new engine ECU and the BECM. Any decent diagnostic system will do that. I think syncmate will do it as well.

they are both non egr.... so a resync should make them work...just another quick question is there a different remap for the egr and non egr...

As the ECU's are different it's reasonable to assume the re-map would be different.

ok cheers also i know there is a difference between auto and manual but is the ecu different or does it matter does the becm care. i think it might ...

Pretty sure the BeCM won't care which EDC you plug in aslong as the Sync Code matches....
You will need to fit the correct EDC for your vehicle type as the EGR and Non-EGR have different fuel maps, and the Auto version issues a torque reduction to the engine when changing gears, the Manual doesn't....
I could be wrong, but you will need to match the EDC's to your vehicle.

cheers for that .. the connector and the loom are paired eg only the non egr loom and ecu will pair and the egr loom and ecu... there are different no on the ecu eg ERR , MSB ECT what is the significance of these anybody

I don't have a complete list but ERR6113 is for manuals and ERR6114 for autos both non EGR. My EGR diesel is MSB106370 with a different plug.
