Flat tyre on the front (Mrs imp gets a flat on garage forecourt same day!)
Brake fluid ****es out of holed brake line above back axle (must be the longest run on the car!).
Oil starts ****ing out of the steering box.

Jelousy because I have been using the bike for work ? Who knows.

Oh, and rear shock lower rubber disintrgrated - less spooky.

Steering box is the biggest bummer. How is that fixed? leak is at bottom so seal around rotating shaft I guess.
 
Sods law isnt it, things like this just do happen unfortunately.

£60 fine for no mot if you get pulled over, no penalty points.

seal youd need for that is stc2848 and can be done on the vehicle if you can remove drop arm
 
When the steering box on my 96 300 Tdi started leaking I went to the local main dlr to enquire about seal kit .
The parts man advised me it would only be a short term cure - 6 months at the outside. Apparently they had encountered problems after fitting the seals in the workshop .
Any wear on the shaft means seal won't last long .
Drop arm can be difficult to remove - I just about managed it with a 10 ton hydraulic puller .
If you go for recon box get one with drop arm attached - saves a lot of trouble .
 
My tdi failed on oil from box, turned out it was the oil cooler pipes above it making it look like it was leaking
a can of brakeclean and it passed

Well unless he goes ringing them up telling them he hasnt got an MOT, they probably wont find out being the lazy ripoff bastards that they are.
 
Doubt it.

I let my MOT run out by accident before. Got a fine and told to get off the road after i'd finished what i was doing (was on my way to a shopping centre at the time) which i thought was nice of teh plod.

Thats bollox. In the UK you can drive a car that has no valid MOT to an MOT testing for a pre booked test as long as it is insured. I don't know of a single insurance company that invalidate an insurance policy because the cars MOT has expired. The only time an insurance company wouldinvalidate a policy is if you have an accident that is a result of your vehicle being in a dangerous condition irrespective of wether or not it has a valid MOT.

A valid MOT doesnt mean anything, your car can still be dangerous with one, vehicles dont get impounded for having no MOT, Its a straight £60 fine.
Impound for no tax or Insurance, MOT -no.
 
Got the MOT ok.
The visible (Dust?) seal has split dropping the grease/accumulated weeping of fluid.
Having cleaned up the area there is no (or very little) leakage so If I can get it cleaned up and get a new seal in I think I can save the box.
Can I get the drop arm off? Can I 80110X.
Next thread is a plea to borrow the correct tool.
 
Fix it the best way possible. Gotta agree with thebiglad, NO MOT MEANS ITS UNROADWORTHY, and a condition of your insurance is that the vehicle has A VALID MOT.
No MOT means no insurance, no insurance means 6 points and statutory ban, usually 6 months minimum. And a large fine on top of that.

But to be honest with you I can't be bothered to explain why.
