Once upon a time Microsoft was the devil and governments clamped down hard on them for running a monopoly, made them break up their business/software and fined them hundreds of millions. But they only ever screwed over the IT business.
Google are much much bigger devils that everyone seems to think are the good guys. They are a catalyst to ruining all sorts of businesses. I work for a company/organisation that represents backpacking hostels in NZ. Since international travel became available to everyone, BBH has nurtured the backpacking business in NZ - we look after the hostels protecting them from rouge guests and rouge practices, and look after the guests making sure they are not ripped off, getting a good service and a distinctively 'Kiwi' experience when they come here. That's fine till some shonkey multinational called PriceLine pays some Dutch fella a few million for a snappy domain name 'Booking.com' and then pay Google hundred of millions so that if anyone does any accommodation type search they get a face full of Booking.com. Now the whole accommodation business globally is basically being creamed and decimated by these guys. Hotels (etc) globally are being forced to list their accommodation with these pirates and in return they take at least 10% of all accommodation revenue - then the hotels realise all the other hotels list with them and they're 250 in the list - so they agree to give them 1/4 of their income to go a bit higher in the list. They don't give a **** about the business or the customers, they just ply Google with lots of cash to facilitate a corporate tax on our business.
Then hotels should be more fair with there prices then. Go to the front counter and ask for a room and in what ever price............ Go back out side and go on line and you pay a lot less. Hotels have shot them selves in the foot with there pricingOnce upon a time Microsoft was the devil and governments clamped down hard on them for running a monopoly, made them break up their business/software and fined them hundreds of millions.
