Hi everybody,
At some point we all need to buy new tyres for our babies!
So how about some feedback on what were all running, whats value for money etc.

I'll set the ball rolling so to speak hehe..
At the moment i'm running BF Goodrich All Terains, but there getting a bit past it . When i replace them idealy i would like to get mud terains that aren't too bad on road,as that is where most of my driving is done but i love mud!!.
Ive looked at BFG muds but if anything the price puts me off a little.
Do any of you have any feedback on other tyres?

Hi there,

I run General Grabber MT's, 33,12.50,15, and to date have found them very capable and relatively quiet on the road. I have heard that the side walls are not as good on them as the BFG equivalent but I have had no problems and have put them through a lot of offroad work. I used to run Fedima Extremes which were great off road but appauling on the road.

Thats helpfull Chris cheers, Fedimas Were on my shortlist but not no more.
I have looked @ general grabbers too, also theBF Goodrich muds and Also Yokohamas Geolander.. There about £40 a tyre cheaper than the BF but as yet i have no feedback.

I tend to travel many miles on road to get to the 'off road' venues. I use 15" Kuhmo power guards which seem to be good all round tyres. Not the best on road or off road but they are very quiet on a long run. Looking to put a complete new set of mud tyres on spare rims and take them with me but i will need onboard air to operate the air rachet for saving time in changing them. I could always get a trailer and pull the landy to off road jolly's.

I have pondered myself about having 2 sets of tyres, All terains for road and muds for offroad! But i know that the first time i got caught out unexpected i would get stuck! So muds it is, the shortlist is now down to BFG,Wranglers and General Grabbers.
Does anyone have any experience with any of these????

Well I've just put new set of tyres on my Disco on sat. Goodyear Wrangler AT 235/70/16 I Tought I'd got a good deal on the Disco for £258 They seem quiet on the road and a mean looking tyres :D :D

I'm running BFG 245/75 R16 Mud terrains. They grip great on the rocks of California and as a mud tyre i havn't come accross one better. On road noise is considerably less than that of the GoodYear Wrangler MTR's. The BFG's wear a lot better also. I'm very happy with them.

Cheers

Well after going out for an off roadin session the other day and my BFG All Terrains being the biggest problem of the day, i decided MT's had to be purchased... Although I didn't expect to be getting them this soon I am a sucker for places that can do instant delivery and instalation.. So - I was visiting ireland and noticed a tyre shop just across from where I was staying with a BF Goodrich sign in the door, so I thought it's a long shot but why not just ask? "Got any 265x75x16's BFG MT?" says I expecting the usual "We can order them, it'''ll be next week" - but no - shock horror, they had them in stock.. So an hour later I was smiling and so probably was my bank manager. Anyway, I'll let you know how they are....

just on subject of tyres

i haven't yet put new rubber on landy, and i'm sure many of you would regard the better known tyre fitting operations with some disdain, but remember they all operate a price-promise system. my first set of tyres for the volvo (i eventually plumped for pirellis - just as benchmark) were going to cost me £130-140 a corner! then they said 'remember and get back to us if you get a better price, we'll at least macth it'.

cue much scribbling and dialling on my part. i even went round and round the last few who kept in the running, playing prices off each other. i now just start the phone convo off by telling them the hooha last time around (i keep receipts) and asking 'whats chances of being as near as damn last price?' and most times i cut out a load of phone calls. those same pirellis NEVER cost me more than £85, even volvo dealers offered to match best price

let them know you mean business from the start...they know when they're dealing with someone who wont accept their flannel. just make sure you check EVERYTHING pre and post fitting (not neccessarily a disaster if they cock-up, look on it as more another opportunity to shave more money off)

good luck

I have tried heaps over the years and the best all rounder I have found are Pirelli Scorpions, Quiet, good in the wet and will get me most places except when it's really muddy, I just could not justify the wear rate of mud pluggers on the road.
Catch you all..... Skuzy
