Tyre choice

Looking to hear from people here regarding their experiences with different tyres.

I've a D2, and will be replacing my current Avon Ranger tyres (235/70 R16) and replacing with 245/70 R16's.

At the moment, I'm looking at goping for either ther BF Goodridge A/T's, as they'rve good on and off road capabilities, give a good service life and performance.
The second option is going for a set of Insa Turbo Dakar's. These are basically the old BFG mud pattern, and should be good for off road use.

My questions now are, how good are the BF Goodridge AT's off road, and will the Insa Turbos be better off road. Then, what kind of service life do they have? I am slightly put off by the fact they're retreads, but if there are any faults, I'm sure they'd get resolved.

I was going to consider the Cooper Discoverer STT, but a colleague that used to work for Cooper/Avon has said these are/being discontinued, and once half worn, performance really drops off.

I don't need any technical info, just experiences regarding off road ability and mileage.

Never had any issues with general grabbers. Good all round and cheaper than bfg

Must admit, I'm tempted to try the Grabbers, with the added bonus I'll get a nice discount

as i work for Continental (General is part of the Conti group).
I was toying with trying the ContiCrossContact AT, but I've not yet met anyone thats tried them.

And price is one of the other reasons I'm considering the Insa Turbos.

1 is a Remould, 1 is a Radial!! plus tread is poles apart!

Thanks for confirming what I'd already said, lol.

Correct, the BF G a/t is all terrain whilst the Insane Turbo Dakar is mud terrain (as I mentioned, I think it's basically the same as the old BF G mud pattern).

best way, you buy which and come back and tell us! or do a search and look at the results, but you know the answer really as 1 will last longer than the other, but depends on what you are reeeaaaly going to do with the car,
i have michelins on the front and Grabbers on the rear, does what i want but i don't really take it off road, the one if i want to go off road has 18.9r38's on, Goodyears at that,

We have Debica Ditch-finders on Mrs Bushwwacker II's 206.

My colleague used to manage a tyre depot, and he reckons he always recommended the BFG a/t and claims people were sometimes saying they got in excess of 50k, and they were really good off road. The only thing with these tyres is they're so expensive, which is not good if you kill one off road, lol. And that is where the Grabber AT2 has the edge in that it's cheaper.

I have been more in favour of the BF Goodridge AT's, just put off by the cost, as I'm adding all the under body protection, a winch bumper, and steel modulars for the new tyres to go on. After all that it's the 2" lift. 2015 is going to be an expensive year!!!

Trust me, don't pay attention to their '55k warranty'!! To get that warranty, you'll have to be able to prove so many variables.

Have you used them off road at all? How do they cope with mud?

Mines a Lab too. He was actually named after a black lab in a couple of books by my favourite author Dean Koontz.

New thread was going to be about LZ dogs (as in pets 😉, lol) and their names. Probably wouldn't be that popular!! :crazy:

Never had a issue with there warranty, I have gotten 75-80k out of them with proper tyre rotation every 6-7k miles. Matter of fact have never had to warranty any tire. Be using coopers since the late 1980, tryed a different brand 1 time as they was cheaper only lasted 40K just like there warranty said, sucks having to by a new set of tyres in a years time. Back to cooper and 2 years is normal
