I'm thinking of fitting Truetrac's front and rear to my 93 Wrangler and I'm
trying to get peoples opinions of them.....

Hi Simon,
I used to run tru-tracs front and rear in my LR90 for a few years.
On the whole they were really good. I have 33" tyres and despite plenty of
abuse the "locking" action didn't deteriorate over time at all. In lots of
situations they were as good if not occasionally better than ARB's, and you
never had to remember to turn them on or off.
However they had some bad points. They make some noise when in use, varying
from a quite alarming "slapping" when they lock and unlock if you give it
some welly through mud, to a very alarming screeching noise if one wheel is
on firm ground and the other attempting to spin out. Never broke a halfshaft
with them though.
They also affect the steering and handling on and off the road. Powering out
of T-junctions I quite often found the front would stiffen up and maintain a
degree of lock which could be entertaining! The same would happen off-road.
I have now changed to ARB's because on balance I think they are better. When
they are in you know they are, and vice versa!
All the best,
Giles

I like the detroit locker better, myself. But best of all would be ARB (air
lockers...your choice to turn on or off at will).
