towbar fitting instructions

Cheers mate , fitted my tow bar today and the fitting instructions helped alot 
tow bar was second hand from ebay for £80 delivered with bolts and cable plug .
bar was an easy bolt on job and tow eye bracket stays in place as bar bolts over it .
you don't have to remove seat belt bolt as you can remove fittings from rear of panel and move out of way to access plug .
there is another plug in corner which looks like it might be for the tow electrics but is not , the real one it tucked away behind panel as shown on picture .
I never got the relay as in parts on 1st page but there appears to be a flasher relay fitted in that place , all i need is to borrow a trailer to test if electrics work

The original flasher relay is already in place. I dont know what happens if it is not changed, I guess either the little green trailer light on dashboard wont work, or the indicators on the car will flash too fast when a trailer is attached.

The relay in mine is a HELLA 4DM003360-00 it hasn't got a LR number on it.
Ebay shop CLASSIC LSE are selling them for £21. It has a good picture of it that might help. At that price see what happens with the one you have got

went to local auto factors about relay and they had one £16 ( sure it's cheaper then LR ) it powers up to 6 signal lights ,with out fitting this the flashers would be fast with a trailer attached .
I have not tried a trailer yet as i have not got one but a mate has (and can borrow to test and use )
with no trailer on when you indicate the green trailer light comes on for a split second and i guess when trailer is on this would be on all the time

Spot on, keep your old flasher in case you ever want to take the tow bar off again.

Can I ask what 31 and 32 are showing please Ianda12? Is that the relay fuse or is that the fuse that will allow the lights on the trailer to work??

Hi there
Steps 31 and 32 show the replacement of the existing vehicle flasher relay with a more powerful one that will also flash the trailer indicator light on the instrument panel when a trailer is connected.
This new relay normally comes with the 7 pin electrical kit, or you can buy one from a motor factor. Alternatively, you can just attach the good old buzzer in line with the indicator connection.

Our tow bar is 2nd hand, so we'll probably be buying another flasher unit - thanks for that! :thumbsup:

Go for the Hella relay. I bought a cheaper one and the dash indicator now flashes all the time (although dim without the caravan connected). Try this. Its the part no. quoted earlier in thread.

just bought my 1st freelander and some wassack decided to chop the towbar wires,, so this is very helpful to find where the plug is inside the car.

I have to help a friend fit a towbar to a Freeland 1 next week.
The one that we have ordered I think does not come with the special connector.
Is it a type of connector that you can push ordinary spades into?
Does anyone have the pinout for it?

The 6 side bolts into the chassis rails are all M10 X 1.5 in any length from 25 to 40mm.
The 2 bolts that go up into the rear X member are M12 X 1.25 and are about 75 to 80mm long. They are available for less than the price LR want for them.

Oh. On the RHS, there are already 3 bolts fitted. These are used to hold the tow eye in place. These can be reused to fix the bar, sandwiching the tow eye in between the tow bar end plate and chassis rail.Thank you very much
