Well it was plug and play on my 02 L322 with genuine module and loom... 06 S/C L322 the same idea with genuine module plugged into o/s/r fuse box.

So it's not "plug and play"While the indicator tell tail on the dash will flash, the CJB still needs to be told that a trailer may be fitted. Doing so will turn off the rear PDC when the trailer is connected, stop the vehicle fog lights from working, and also initiate towing strategy in the stability control module, so sway mitigation and other advanced towing functions are activated.
Lighting is plug n play, advanced towing functions aren't, so it needs a programming session on SDD or Gap IID, as you suggested.So it's not "plug and play"
