Hi All,

As title really - my TC locks up at 37mph. While this is no problem to me, reading online should it not be around 50mph?

My car is a 4.6 V8

Cheers

Chris

Should be around 50 mph according to cocker. My diesel locks at about 46 mph. That is the main reason i think that people who drive at 44 mph in a 50 zone are complete and utter prats. :D:D

That's the lock up speed for third gear, sure it's shifting into fourth? Or maybe the ECU has lost it's marbles.
I would put it on diagnostics and look at live data from the sensors etc.

Yeah, by counting the gears -it makes it to forth (although it flares into 4th a bit)

TC just seems to lock up too early?

Nevermind, im happy wnough with it - just wish the lucas oil would hurry up and sort out the sticky valve (4th gear change) issue...

Cheers

Might take 1K miles and more than one oil/Lucas change to stop the flaring. Done mine 3 times now and it's still getting better, flaring stopped in the first 1K miles apart from an occasional bad shift, it then went to occasional hard shifts into 4th. After 6K + miles it's near perfect, no flareing and rarely a hard shift

What year is your car?

I found that a 96 gems 4.6 wouldnt lockup until the mid/late 40's

My 99' 4.6 Thor will lockup if driven VERY gently at 33/34mph, this behaviour is also replicated in a friends 01 4.6 Thor.

4.6 has the HP24 box and a totally different gearbox ECU so my well be different to all the other P38's with the HP22 box. Don't know if this applies to the GEMS & Thor versions.

Yep, mine does the same if driven steady.

Thanks for the advice all

My car is a 1997 4.6 GEMS

Apparently the car will "Learn" the driving styles and compensate accordingly? Mine has just ticked over 200K, so should have done a LOT of learning by now...

Thanks again

Chris

Just came across this in RAVE, (Auto gearbox, Description and operation P20):

High Range
Unique lock-up maps, similar to the shift maps, are
incorporated in the economy and sport modes for all
forward gears. Engagement and disengagement of
the lock-up clutch is dependent on throttle position
and engine speed.

So I will now spend happy hours trying to drive in such a way as to get it to lock up in each gear ...!
