The shock looks like this both sides. Am I missing a shim or insert? I'm not sure what the shock is, but the truck does have a 2" lift. I'm readying the truck for a trip to Spain in the mountains, so need it in good shape.

I'm not sure about split bushes. I don't think so.
I thought maybe it had a 2" lift and they kept the standard shocks, and therefore the alignment & fitment was wrong. It certainly doesn't seem to line up, or looks like something is missing form the shock mount. Dunno

If you think it may be alignment due to the lift then disconnect the bottom of the shock and see if you can get it to line up. Here's a pic of my shock mount for comparison if it helps (no lift, standard shocks). Otherwise just take the whole shock off and check the bush.

Shock mount looks ok and standard. I am sure mine was angled up as well. New ones are under £20. You need to remove nut and see what has gone wrong with bushes. Is it rattling over bumps, that is how i knew mine was gone.

Yeah, it's banging a bit. I can physically move the shock and hear it hit the metal. I've attached another pic. Should something be stopping the shock moving over that far? Am I missing something?
I'm starting to think the truck is on 2" lifted springs and standard shocks. So where the shocks are too short it's knackered the bush under articulation.
Is the answer new extended shocks? I read one discription of the Tereferma all terrain shocks FT117 and they are designed for a 2" lift. They're a pretty cheap solution, if so.
Any advise?

That looks to me like a two piece bush that is missing the internal piece.

Unbolt it and see what you have got in there.

Cheers

I have a set of terrafirma with 2 in lift used but still good if you can arrange to pick them up you can have them
