I can't offer lots of experience, but if you need an extra set of hands when you do the tank just let me know. Only just moved up here from down south.

It should be straightforward once I get it off mate as its only held in by 4 large bolts and barely weighs a thing when empty. I'll certainly let you know though, thanks for the offer

Well I've had a think and I'm going to stick a Jerry can in my side bins, cut the fuel pick up and stick it in. Only three small problems, 1. The last diesel I had is currently soaking into some tarmac, 2. I've no money for said diesel, 3. The fuel station is a mile away.

Can you get an electric drill in there?(have you got one?) if so centre punch the bolt and drill into it's end starting with a drill smaller than the bolt and increase the size of drill until you have drilled the bolt out of the nut or until it is easy to knock off.
Hth

Tried that with the most accessible one and the drill just kept slipping off. The other one is a bit more difficult to get into on account of the rear step which has welded itself to the crossmember with rust.

Bugger!
Have you thought about just cutting the tank up to **** with the angle grinder until you can get at the brackets/bolts from the big void you've now created?
IT IS A DIESEL RIGHT? NOT A PETROL RIGHT?

That would make things so much easier but i can't park anywhere my house so a corded angle grinder is out of the question :(. Even parked as close to my back gate as I can get I'd still need two extension reels to reach it
