Hi guys last week I got my self a very solid no rot chassis, it was already sandblasted and the guy had started to paint it but gave up on the project.

so the question Is do I remove the paint and get galvanised

or do I get some high zinc paint and paint it and waxoyl the inside ?

the zinc paint I will use is the same sort of stuff they use to paint the legs of oil rigs, its not cheap but hey ho
I myself was going to galv
but a few people ive spoke to have said they wouldn't galv an old chassis they'd just paint it ????

I considered galving mine but my blaster advised against it as there was rust inside and had so many repairs. They dip it first to remove the rust in what I believe is phosphoric acid (don't quote me on that) and it could have come out with a few more holes in it. Plus the price I got at the time was quite s lot. That said, I have a solid and I mean solid discovery chassis I'm thinking of trying it on, because I've found somewhere that will do it much cheaper. Not a very good answer to yoir question I suppose but it all depends in what is going on INSIDE the chassis.

If it's a solid chassis get it galved.
It's a no brainer while you have the bare chassis.
I've done loads of older chassis, s3etc.
Get yet bulkhead done at the same time.
It's hydrochloric acid that it will be dipped in prior to galving.
I do all my own galvanizing so it's easy for me. Just make sure ALL the paint grease and oil is removed first.
The acid will remove the rust.

Off topic I know but what are you doing about the identity of your vehicle, taking on the new chassis number or keeping quiet and just grinding it off and having no ID? I believe that either way there is the potential for issues.

the outside is spotless guys I mean spotless I couldn't believe my luck I thought it cant be as good as his saying but it was, ive shone a torch down everyhole I can and looked inside as much as I can and all I can see is light surface rust, I was under the same impression as you guys that if its good galv, but a few of my 4x4 mats have said exactly the same as mentioned about not knowing whats going on,

the way I see it is that it looks good, looks solid, if I galv its peace of mind for me.
