Hi All,
I am thinking of buying a 1995 Discovery Tdi 2.5 Automatic with 135000 miles, MOT end of October 2014 in fairly good condition for £1690.00.
Is this a reasonable price?
What should I look for(Faults etc)?
What sort of MPG should I get with a light foot?
Am I right in thinking because of the age this would be £225.00 Road Tax per year?
Any help and advice gratefully accepted.
Cheers

It's a bit pricey if in fair condition I'd expect to pay around 1100, time of year though I suppose. Just poke everywhere for rot and ask the owner to jet wash the underside before viewing. If it's caked in mud you won't see the rot as well. I bought a rot box and didn't quite know what I was looking at but do know. I'd take somebody with you that knows what there looking at. Even from the forum bung them a drink and at least you know what your buying is legit. It's a constant project and you will find most weekends you tinker with it and change things, I'm no mechanic but I'm learning a lot from mine and love it.

Automatic mpg I'd expect 20-25mog. Anyone that tells you they are doing over 30 I wouldn't believe.

My last TDi 300 auto had 78,000mls on the clock when I bought it. It did 16,000mls in my ownership and throughout that period - including a trip to North Africa - it averaged 33mpg - HONESTLY !!!!

Use a magnet on the underside and be careful of too much underseal, if the floor does not look smooth then the chances are holes could be patched and hidden.
